１）大学入試の英作文ということで回答します。（大学入試では７割取ればいいわけです。perfect な英語は無理です。）【 】の部分が減点対象となります。 ２）It is said that the number of young people who read books is decreasing. However, considering【★１：what → that】works made by popular writers are【★２：sold → selling】well, we cannot judge that they have been unwilling to do it. 【★３：they → They】are only absorbed in what is interesting for them. ３）★１は、大きな文法ミスです。他の部分がしっかりしているので、どうしてここで間違うのか分かりません。consider that S V でないとおかしいですね。 ４）★２は、The book sold well. のように、sell well は、能動態で「売れる」の意味になる、受験英語の常連イディオムです。 ５）★３は、文章の初めですので大文字にしなければなりません。 ６）総じてとてもよくできています。このままで７割答案かもしれません。取りこぼしを少なくすれば、模範的英作文を書けるようになると思います。 ７）大学入試を終えれば、後は自由で、十人十色の訳になります。正解というようなものはありません。たとえば、１つのサンプルとして、次のように訳してみました。 We hear it said time and again that young people these days don't read like their counterparts used to, but considering that popular authors' books are selling well, the assumption may well be a fallacy. こんにちは 毎日頑張っていますね。 学生さんですか？？ 基本的な英語の文の構成 はとても良いと思います。 日本語をちゃんと理解して、適切な英語の構成をしていると思います。 ただ、本人もわかっている通り、もっとすっきりとした言葉を選べば、ストレートに伝わる英語になるかなと思います。 今回の文章では 「considering what works made--- 」 で what を使うのはおかしいかな、と思います。 使うなら、considering that works --- で、「that 以下の事を考えると」、という意味になります そして、小説なので works made by ではなくて works written by 又は novels written by となるでしょうね それに続く have been unwilling も、この使い方であれば現在完了ではなく現在形で良いと思います。 今回の文章は、私なら以下のようにするかな 最近の若者は以前ほど本を読まないといわれる It is said that less young people read books. （より少なくなった を less で表します） しかし、人気作家の作品がよく売れていることを考えると、若者が読書嫌いになったとは判断できない。 Considering, however, that novels written by popular novelist are selling well, we cannot say that young people have lost interest in reading books. あるいは Considering, however, that novels written by popular novelist are selling well, we cannot say that young people today do not like reading books. （今の若者は、こうなってしまっている、というニュアンスを出しています） 若者はただ自分たちの興味を引くものだけに熱中するだけだ。 They seem to devote themselves only to things they are interested in. It is true that TASUPO contributes to preventing them from smoking,in that they cannot buy tabacco without the card. But there are two problems. Firstly, it is possible that they may lend and borrow the card which adults have. Secondly, they could buy tabacco at the convenience stores without showing the card. 外国語で書くときは、とりわけ自然な表現を目指すべきである。なるほど自国語で書くときに 複雑な表現を好む書き手がいるが、外国人はまず読みやすい表現を使うべきである。 You should aim at expressing naturally in foreign languages when you write in it. It is true that some writers like to use complex words but foreigners should use plain words 完全なる直訳になってしまいました。 回答よろしくお願いします。

回答ありがとうございます。 はい、大学受験を考えています。 whatに関しては書いてるときに違和感を感じたのですが書き通してしまいました。 以降は丁寧にやるようこころがけます。 和訳はうまくはないのですが個人的に好きな作業なので、大学入試後も続けたいと思っています。 go_urnさんの言う自分勝手（？）な英文も自分のカチカチな英文からすればすごく魅力的に感じます。
