いつもお世話になっております。 早速ですが、質問です。 問題： The inventory should be completed by the end of the month if everything goes _____ plan. 選択肢： ・in addition to ・agreeing with ・relating to ・according to 正解は「according to」になっていましたが、「agreeing with」でもいけそうな気がしました。 主語が棚卸になっているので、意味的に「agreeing with」では無理なのでしょうか？ それとも、文法的に無理なのでしょうか？ 回答、宜しくお願いします。

according to plan で「予定通りに」 go according to plan で「予定通りに運ぶ」 everything/all goes according to plan で「万事予定通りに運ぶ」 という決まり文句です・ この according to ～は「～に従って」「～と一致して」で in agreement with ～と同じ意味です。 実際は「従って」で決まり，「一致」とは結びつきにくいですが， agreeing with はこれとのひっかけでしょう。 according は普通の ing とは別なのでいいですが， go agreeing だと go swimming 的なつながりですし， 少なくとも，「～しながら行く」と感じられます。 agree with の意味的にはなんとかつながりそうですが， agreeing という ing 形は置きにくいです。

according to は「AがBに従って」。計画に従う という場合にはこの方がベターです。 agree with は本来別々(独立)のものが「よく似合う／合っている」という気分です。洋服と靴、フローリングと壁の線、二人の解析、が合っている。according to の代わりに使ってダメとまでは言えませんが、感覚的に違います。

plan は可算名詞なので，普通は無冠詞単数というのはないはずですが， according to plan はこれで決まり文句。 http://eow.alc.co.jp/search?q=according+to+plan&ref=sa 英辞郎が標準辞書化するのはいやですが， 普通の英和辞典にも載っています。

everything にも何か言い分があって、それが plan の内容と一致してれば agree を使うでしょうが、everything はお店側の様々な状況のことであり、何かを主張したり、命令したりはしません。plan に従うべき事柄ですので、accord を使います。 ※問題文は the plan(s) の誤りです。

if everything goes ... plan という部分を見ると、「すべて計画どおりにいけば」 という文のように見えますから、「・・・ にのっとる」 という意味の according to を選択するのが自然です。 agreeing with を選ぶというのは、非常に不自然です。agree with A という形で 「A と意見が一致する、賛成する」 あるいは 「事実が A と一致する」 などの意味になり、この場合は不適当です。それに、agree （同意する） という動詞を agreeing with という分詞の形で使っている英文など、見たこともありません。
