お礼、ありがとうございます。#3他です。 >no2さんとはまた違う意見で興味深いです。 いえいえ、ほぼ同じで、ちょっと視点が違うだけです。質問解答ページを開いていたので、#2 katelot様のご回答に気づかず、混乱をまねかない配慮ができなくて、大変申し訳ありません。 たとえば一番異なっているようにお感じかもしれない一番目ですが、 > これは、言われたら通じるには通じます。ただ、正しい文法かと言われれば、違うと思われます。 と仰っておられます。私は、言い換えは異なる意味になると申し上げ、#2 katelot様は言いたいことを察して、通じるけれど、と仰ってくれています。 >can you make your English understood? を直訳すると、yourselfとyour Englishは違う意味ですけれど、非ネイティブの人が言ったら、your Englishをyourself in Englishのことだと了解してもらえますよ、でもyourselfと言った方がいいですよ、ということになります。 もし言葉通りに受け取れば、たとえば「日本語でおｋ」みたいな感じに聞こえなくもないですが、好意的で、しかし真面目に言っているのだったら、そうでないと分かってもらえるということですね。でも文法的に正しくはないですよ、と。 at/inは、ほぼ同じ説明になっています。 not toを間違いとされておられますね。現代の実用英語ではそういう傾向があります。 無駄な単語は省く（I've been kept waitingよりI've been waitingとか）、和らげる意図がない限り、否定より肯定（I don't think I can't do itよりI think I can do itとか）といったことです。時制の一致ということにも変化があります（He said he was a good tennis playerではなく、He said he is a good tennis playerとか：彼が現在も現役のテニス選手なら）。 not toに戻りますと、古い時代で現在の英語文法の基礎が18世紀に「制定」される以前、否定文は文中にnotさえ置いておけばいいという言い方もありました。これは現在のように改められました。not toは間違いと分類されなかったのですが、原則としてnotといった否定語はできるだけ前に持ってくることが推奨されています。しかしnot toはどうしても、後ろに下がりがちです。 現代英語になると間違いという感覚・見解もあるでしょう。私もnot toを言って、ネイティブに別の言い方のほうがいいと言い換えを教えてもらうことがあります。 それでも使いたいときはあって、易しい解説では以下のようなものがあります。 http://www.rwds.net/kuroita/english/huteihi.html しかし上の例文でも、「もっとすっきりした言い方はあるだろう」と言われたら、確かにその通りであったりはします。 そういう意味では、#2 katelot様のご回答は、非常に実用的で、実践英語として大変役に立つ内容です。大いに参考になさってください。 ただ、学校の勉強、特に受験に備えたものであれば、普通は使わなくても、覚えておいた方がいいことは、いろいろあります。また、そういう言い方・書き方を見聞きすることもありますから、その意味でも、いろいろ知っておいてもいいでしょうね。

ある 英作文の本に “make oneself understood in English “ は 肯定文には使用できない 肯定文で 「英語で用を足すの英訳は」 can get your messages across in English can get by in English can communicate in English となってるのです 手持ちの ウイズダム では He managed to make himself understood in German. 彼はドイツ語でなんとか意思を伝えることができた アンカーコズミックでは Can you make yourself understood in Chinese? となっていて 両方の辞書を見る限り 肯定文も否定文も使用可能だと思えるのです だとしたら この英作文の表記が間違ってるのかなと思うのですが どうなんでしょうか？

丁寧に説明して頂いて助かりました。 学校の英語の先生の説明より詳しい！(笑 有難うございます！ at/in ただ短英文問題で Its 9 o'clock in the morning.と書いてありまた疑問に思いました…。 9 o'clock と、具体的な一点を指しているのになぜ at morning じゃないんでしょうか…。 not toはネイティブの方がやめた方がいいとも言っているんですね。 参考にします！
