Named in honor of Private Grafton Spencer, AUS. killed in action early 1943. Army of the United Statesを意味すると思います。

French police and security forces are searching for the gunmen who killed 12 people at a newspaper office in Paris. Search continues for attackers of Paris newspaper French police and security forces are searching for the gunmen who killed 12 people at a newspaper office in Paris. The gunmen stormed the main building of the weekly Charlie Hebdo on Wednesday. The victims include executives and satirical cartoonists, and 2 police officers. At a news conference later in the day, an official from the Paris public prosecutor's department said 2 masked men armed with Kalashnikov automatic rifles forced their way into the building, killed one person at the reception desk, and headed for a room on the third floor where an editors' meeting was being held. The official said the gunmen killed the people in that room. They then exchanged fire with police outside and killed another person before fleeing in a car. During the rampage, they were heard shouting "Allah is great" and "We have just taken revenge for the Prophet". This suggests they could have been inspired by Islamic extremism. Police suspect at least one more person was involved in the attack. Eyewitnesses say they saw 3 people in the car as they fled. Security troops and other counter-terrorism forces have been mobilized to help in the search. The weekly newspaper is well-known for satirical cartoons and articles. Police were on intensified patrol around its buildings as it frequently received threats after carrying caricatures of Islam.

Augustin Trébuchon was the last Frenchman to die when he was shot on his way to tell fellow soldiers, who were attempting an assault across the Meuse river, that hot soup would be served after the ceasefire. He was killed at 10:50 am. The last soldier from the UK to die, George Edwin Ellison of the 5th Royal Irish Lancers, was killed earlier that morning at around 9:30 am while scouting on the outskirts of Mons, Belgium. The final Canadian, and Commonwealth, soldier to die, Private George Lawrence Price, was shot and killed by a sniper while part of a force advancing into the town of Ville-sur-Haine just two minutes before the armistice to the north of Mons at 10:58 am, to be recognized as one of the last killed with a monument to his name. And finally, American Henry Gunther is generally recognized as the last soldier killed in action in World War I. He was killed 60 seconds before the armistice came into force while charging astonished German troops who were aware the Armistice was nearly upon them. He had been despondent over his recent reduction in rank and was apparently trying to redeem his reputation. Legacy Celebration of the Armistice became the centrepiece of memories of the war, along with salutes to the unknown soldier. Nations built monuments to the dead and the heroic soldiers, but seldom to the generals and admirals. 11 November is commemorated annually in many countries under various names such as Armistice Day, Remembrance Day, Veterans Day, and in Poland it is Independence Day. The end of the Second World War in China (end of the Second Sino-Japanese War) formally took place on 9 September 1945 at 9:00 (the ninth hour of the ninth day of the ninth month). The date was chosen in echo of the Armistice of 11 November 1918 (on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month); and because "nine" is homophone of the word for "long lasting" in Chinese (to suggest that the peace won would last forever). Stab-in-the-back myth The myth that the German Army was stabbed in the back, by the Social Democratic government that was formed in November 1918, was created by reviews in the German press that grossly misrepresented British Major-General Frederick Maurice's book, The Last Four Months. "Ludendorff made use of the reviews to convince Hindenburg." In a hearing before the Committee on Inquiry of the National Assembly on November 18, 1919, a year after the war's end, Hindenburg declared, "As an English general has very truly said, the German Army was 'stabbed in the back'."

- a man who claims to be
An audio recording that accompanies the video plays the voice of a man who claims to be Goto. だと主張されている”のだからwho is claimed to be Gotoとなるべきだと思います。 Release of militant demanded in exchange for Goto A Japanese journalist apparently held captive by the Islamic State militant group has claimed he will be freed in exchange for an Iraqi woman sentenced to death by a Jordanian court. A video posted late Saturday, Japan time, shows a still image of hostage Kenji Goto holding a photo of another Japanese hostage Haruna Yukawa. An audio recording that accompanies the video plays the voice of a man who claims to be Goto. He says the militants killed Yukawa. He says the group is offering to free him in exchange for the release of a woman called Sajida al-Rishawi. Media and other sources in the Middle East say Rishawi was given a death sentence for her involvement in the 2005 bombings in the Jordanian capital of Amman. More than 50 people died. Jordanian authorities alleged the coordinated bomb attacks were the doing of the then leader of Al-Qaeda in Iraq, Abu al-Zarqawi. Al-Qaeda in Iraq is the predecessor of Islamic State, which established itself in Syria as civil war was raging across the country. The Islamic State last month captured a Jordanian air force pilot taking part in air raids against the group. Middle Eastern media say Jordanian officials may be considering the option of freeing Rishawi in exchange for the pilot.

Mason wrote in 2000 that there had been 378,000 French and 337,000 German casualties. In 2003, Clayton quoted 330,000 German casualties, of whom 143,000 were killed or missing and 351,000 French losses, 56,000 killed, 100,000 missing or prisoners and 195,000 wounded. Writing in 2005, Doughty gave French casualties at Verdun, from 21 February to 20 December 1916 as 377,231 men of 579,798 losses at Verdun and the Somme; 16 percent of Verdun casualties were known to have been killed, 56 percent wounded and 28 percent missing, many of whom were eventually presumed dead. Doughty wrote that other historians had followed Churchill (1927) who gave a figure of 442,000 casualties by mistakenly including all French losses on the Western Front. (In 2014, Philpott recorded 377,000 French casualties, of whom 162,000 men had been killed, German casualties were 337,000 men and a recent estimate of casualties at Verdun from 1914 to 1918 was 1,250,000 men).
