"In the 1980s, he served under career KGB officer Igor Sechin - who is now deputy prime minister." この文にあるunder careerの意味がよくわからないので教えてください。

"career KGB officer Igor Sechin" の元に仕えた (served under...)、という意味です。 career officer は職業指導教員（職業軍人）ですので、career KGB officer Igor Sechin はKGBの指導教員である Igor Sechin、というところでしょうか。

　＃１です。補足です。 　KGBは、Komitet Gosudarstvennoy Bezopasnosti　「旧ソ連の国家保安委員会」の略で、一種の秘密警察ですからキャリアの警察幹部、という意味です。
