＞I may have had to explain it a little more, previously.がどうして「もう少し話す羽目になっていたかもしれない、以前ならね」という意味合いになるのかを詳しくご教授いただけませんでしょうか？ ＃２にいただいた上記レスポンスを拝見しました。母語感覚で英語を身につけたので、私もあいにくと文法用語を用いた説明はできないのですが、ご参考までに。 「may have to」で「～しなければならないかもしれない」です。 http://eow.alc.co.jp/may+have+to/UTF-8/ 「may have had to」ですから「～しなければならなかったかもしれない」です。 「previously」の前にカンマがあるので“カンマの前でいったん終わって、カンマ以降はオマケもしくは少し別の話”と解釈するのが自然です。 したがって、直訳すると「もう少し話さなければならなかったかもしれない、前もって」とも解釈できますが、これでは意味が通らないので、「previously」を別の語義に解釈して「もう少し話す羽目になっていたかもしれない、以前ならね」とでも言いたかったのかなと思ってしまいます。もちろん文脈次第ですが。 http://eow.alc.co.jp/previously/UTF-8/ いずれにしても「べき」に相当する表現がどこにもありません。

I will try to answer it after I've had a little time to think. という文章なのですが、after の後がいまひとつしっくりこなくてご質問です。 「（この先）考える時間を少しとった後、回答してみます」ということかと思いますが、 after I've had が、この先将来でなく過去のことを指しているのかと誤解してしまいました。 理解がすすむ考え方があればおしえていただけますでしょうか。 あと、例えばこれを、after I have a little time to think. とすると、 問題ありますでしょうか。 うまくご説明できているか心配ですが、宜しくお願い致します。

With a little more study, he could have passed the exam. を書き換えると、If he had studied a little harder, ... と正解にありました。なるほど。それもいいでしょうが、 If he had studied a little more ではまずいのでしょうか。 ニュアンスがよくないのでしょうかね。 逆に With a little harder study ではおかしいのでしょうか（言わないような気はしますが）。 文法的にはどれもよさそうですが・・・。 よろしくお願いします。

海外の方とメールのやり取りをしているのですが、 下記の文章をどう理解して良いのか解らず困っています。 * I'll help you to make it sound a little bit more like English. この文章を下記の様に分けて考えました。 ・I'll help you :「私はあなたを手伝います。」 ・to make it ～ : make は使役の意味で「itを～させる為に」 ・a little bit more :「少しばかり多く」 ・sound like English :「英語の様に聞こえる」？？？(soundはsoundsのスペルミス？) 繋げると、 * I'll help you to make it sounds a little bit more like English. ** 私は、あなたがitを少しばかり多く英語の様に聞こえる手助けをするでしょう。 結局sound like Englishのところの訳で良く解らないことになっていると思うのですが、 分け方がおかしいのでしょうか？ itの指す内容はこの文章内ではなく、文脈上の内容を指していると考えて良いのでしょうか? 教えて下さい。
