その先生はこの問題を考えた時shortestを考えていたのでだと思います。 しかしsecondという答えもある事を知り、それが誤りであると説明出来ない限り、両方とも正解とするのが教師として正しい姿だと思います。 その先生が良い先生である事を（その先生自身のためにも）祈っています。 余談ですが、氷が溶けると（春）になる（元の答えは水）の話しを思い出しました。 世論は『春』の答えに大喝采しましたよね。

中一の英語のテストで(月)を英語で書く問題が出ました。 The twelve （月） of the year are January, February, ・・・, December. 子供がテストでmonthsを記入したところ×となり、正解はmonthと言われたそうです。 ｂｅ動詞もareになっているので、私も子供もmonthsだと思っていました。どう使い分ければいいのかわかりません。教えてください。よろしくお願いします。

両者の違いがわかりません。例えば 「夏は、一年中で一番暑い季節です。」を英訳する際、 Summer is the hottest season in a year.だと思うのですが、 [in a year]を[of the year]に置き換えてはだめでしょうか？ というのも May is the fifth month of the year. という英文を見たことがあるからです。ご存知の方いらっしゃいますか？
