英語の構文で質問です so large a portion of the inhabitants of cities are shut away from natural beauty. 都市の大部分の住民が自然美から閉め出されている。 この英文の解説では、 「a large portion of = so large a portion of」 と書いてありましたが 何でそうなるのですか？？ お願いします。<(_ _)>

こんにちは！ a large portion of ～ で、～の大きな部分という意味ですね。 この large を強めたいとき、 very, so, such ...など考えられます。 a very large portion of ～ は、こんなものですね。 ところが、 so の場合は、 ×a so large portion of ～でなく、○ so large a portion of ～と形容詞を引きずり出してくるのです。too, as, how なんかも同様の性格を持っています。 such は、such a large portion of ～の語順となります。 このことは分かっておられるかもしれませんね。でしたら無視して下さい。 さて、なぜ「so large a portion of = a large portion of」なのかということですが、非常に大きな部分というと、基準がないですので、住民の非常に大きな部分が虐殺されたというと、30％でも使えますね。 ですので a large portion of ～は、普通の英語の美学では、強調しても意味ないので（それ自体が強調なのだから）、修飾はしないほうがいいということがあります。そこまで考えて、「so large a portion of = a large portion of」と言っているかもしれません。１つの見識です。 あるいは、「so large a portion of = a【very】large portion of」 と書こうとして、私のようにボケで忘れただけなのかもしれません。 前者の場合で考えたいですね！つまり、著者はso large a portion ofなんて書いているが、ここは、 a large portion ofで十分なところなんだ、という修正案を提示しているんだと．．． それなら、その解説者はエライ！です。後者なら、私並で、オソマツです。 以上、ご参考になれば幸いです！

英語では、a so large portion ofとは言えないのです。不定冠詞とsoの相性が悪いのだと思いますが、よく解りません。とにかく、そんな意味で言いたい場合はso large a portion ofと言います（suchも同様ですね）。無理してsoを入れているわけですから、=a large portion ofではありません。「そんなに」多くの、です。

It is a familiar sight nowaddays to see a large number of Japanese tourists, often wearing spectacles and with a camera strapped on their shoulders, strolling along the busy streets of the world's major cities. 上記の文章で,often wearing ～ their shoulders,とカンマで区切られている部分の文法的な解釈の仕方がわかりません。内容はJapanese touristsを修飾しているようで、分詞構文の一種のように思われるのですが、私の持っている文法書を見てもそのような用法が載っていません。どなたかわかる方がいらっしゃったら回答を御願いします。

この英語おかしくないですか？ 今日職場で読んだ英文記事の英語がおかしいような気がします。 "Prices of newly built homes in 50 of the 70 large Chinese cities rose in May from the previous month, down from 56 cities in April." 文法的に、"down from "は"Prices"にかかる気がするのですが、文章は、”新築物件の価格が上がった都市の数”にかけています。 英語の得意な方、ご意見頂けますと幸いです。
