おはようございます。＃２ですが、再度失礼します。 前回の回答では、次のサイトのスピーチ原稿を参考にしました。 http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2008/nov/05/text_obamas_victory_speech/ ご覧のように、他の方が示された原文とは punctuation がかなり異なっています。ということは、このスピーチを文字に書き下ろした人物の解釈が異なっているということを示しています。 おそらく、いろいろな punctuation の原稿が存在するだろうと考えられます。もし、私が最初から＃５の方が示された英文を見たら、前回とは違った回答をしていたと思います。しかしながら、前後の段落が全て It's the answer ～ という表現で始まっていますから、＃５の方が紹介された英文は正しい解釈だと思います。そして、その内容の解釈の仕方は＃６の方の日本語訳でいいと思います。 ご提示の英文の部分に関してですが、 Americans who sent a message to the world that we have never been a collection of Red States and Blue States: we are, and always will be, the United States of America. のように繋がれば、a message の内容を説明する同格のthat節は質問者さんの示された部分より長く、the United States of America まで続くことになります。質問者さんの見られた英文も punctuation が違っていたのでしょうね。 いろいろな英文原稿があるでしょうが、結局スピーチにおいて一番重要なのは音声そのものでしょう。オバマがどのような声で、どのような間を置き、どのような気持ちを込めて、どのような考えを持ってスピーチをしているかを演説から読みとり感じることが一番重要ですね。オバマのスピーチを聴くといつもケネディーやキング牧師を思い出します。私もオバマは歴史に残る名演説家だと思います。

演説の中に、次の一文がありました。 For we know that our patchwork heritage is a strength, not a weakness. このようなforの使い方を見たことがありません。 辞書で調べても、接続詞としてはありましたが、文頭には置かないとのことでした。 また、翻訳ソフトにかけてみても、forは無視されました（訳されていません）。 私は英語には強いつもりでいたのですが、この一文で少々自信喪失気味です。 どなたかお詳しい方、ご説明いただけませんでしょうか？ よろしくお願いいたします。

二度に渡るご回答ありがとうございます．greeen さんからのご指摘通り，演説を英文に置き換える際の punctuation によって，まったく読み方が変ってくるものですね．このこと自体が私にとって，非常に良い経験になりました． 私は Asahi.com に載った英文を見ただけだったのですが，問題の箇所は greeen さんが上で貼り付けられたサイトに見られる英文と同じ表現になっていました．私自身がもっといろいろ調べてから質問すべきでした．申し訳ございません． 私は英語の素人ですが，greeen さんの回答をいつも拝見し勉強させて頂いています．今後ともどうぞ宜しく御指導下さい．
