Since infants may babble vowels and consonants which are not part of their mother’s native repertoire, babbling is not evidence that children are starting to acquire the segmental sounds of their mother tongue. But recent psycholinguistic research supports earlier assumptions that children are beginning to learn the suprasegmental sounds of their mother tongue at this stage. The term suprasegmental refers to the musical pitch, rhythm, and stress which accompany the syllables we produce and play such an important role in marking grammar, meaning, and intention.

'suprasegmental'というのは、'the musical pitch...' babbling is not evidence'である根拠を述べています。

Parents are often upset when their children praise the homes of their friends and regard it as a slur on their own cooking , and often are foolish enough to let the adlescents see that they are annoyed, and (1)Parent are upset (2)their children praise (3)their children regard (4)Parent often are foolish しかし、(3)のregardはParentが主語でした。

First-born children receive all of their parents' attention until a new child is born. Only children receive this attention all through their lives. Both kinds of children have close relationships with their parents and try to make them happy. First-born children try hard to be successful, and they often get professional jobs. Only children also try to be perfect at everything. They are usually responsible and reliable. Sometimes, however, they become selfish. The mind is no less capable in women than in men of making this from resolve which constitutes virtue and of recognising the circumstances in which it should be practised. women can control their passions just as well as we can, and they are not more inclined to vice than to virtue. One could even tilt the balance in their favour on this issue because affecthion for children. which is incompara bly stronger in women than in men, is naturally linked with compassion which, in trun, could be called the virtue and tha bond of civil society. it is impossible to imagine that society is reasonably established for any other purpose apart from the mutual satisfaction of needs and common necessities. And if one looked closely at how passions arise in us, one would find that the way in which women treat us when we are in distress, almost like their own children, is like a natural development of their contribution to the birth and education of men. Thet the differences which can be observed in the conduct of men and women derive from their education It is all the more important to notice that the dispositions with which we are born are neither good nor evil, because otherwise one cannot avoid a rather common mistake of attributing to nature something which results only from custom

There are therefore 192 subjects(forty per cent of the sample) whose happiness and domestic efficiency are to a greater or lesser extent dependent on the ready accessibility of their children or other relatives. No solution of the problems of old age will be acceptable to the people themselves or to their children which does not take the family factor into account. King, Sir Geoffrey, formerly Permanent Secretary, Ministry, of Pensions and National Insurance, "Policy and Practice", Old Age in the Modern World, 1995. Studies in other places such as Hammersmith, Acton, and Northern Ireland have also produced some evidence of close ties between old people and their relatives and of a willingness to bear the burden of nursing care. But the evidence gained in these inquiries was incidental to their main purposes. There has been no specialized study of the place of the old person in the family. Yet such detailed knowledge may be fundamental to any understanding of old age or of its problems. That is the starting point of this study. How often do old people see their children and their brothers and sisters, and do they live near or far? What services do relatives perform for each other every day and at times of crisis? What is the differences in family role of an old man and an old woman? Can a more precise meaning be given to loneliness and social isolation and what does it mean to be widowed, single, or childless? Is the status of old people undergoing change? Which old people make the greatest demand on the State aid or replace the efforts of the family? These are some of the questions which will be discussed in this report.

The school is on the St.Regis Mohawk Reservation. A reservation is land on which Native Americans live. There are about 300 reservations in the United States now. Until the 1960s, Native American children were punished if they spoke their native tongue at school. In the 1970s, people on the St.Regis Mohawk Reservation began to worry that their children were not learning their native tongue and culture. Like many other Native American languages, Mohawk was in danger of extinction. Only one out of five Mohawks could speak it. Mohawk leaders started the Freedom School in 1979. In this school the students learn about Mhawk history and tradition as well as the language. "What they’re learning here, they would never be taught anywhere else,” says one of their teachers.
