of の使い方がよくわかりません。

「of＋抽象名詞」でその名詞から派生した形容詞に相当する意味となり、「…という性質・特徴を持つ」といったニュアンスを表す用法があります。 例えば、of value＝valuable,of courage＝courageousという感じですし、例文でいうとof importance＝importantですし、of essence＝essentialと言うことです。 もしofがなくなってしまうと、「God(神)はimportance(重要性)そのものではない」となってしまいます。 主語であるGodという名詞と補語であるimportanceという名詞においてbe動詞によってイコールになるのかどうかというのではなくて、 重要性があるのかないのかという性質・特徴について述べる方が自然ですので、be動詞の後は"形容詞"相当にしなければなりません。 その働きをするのが前置詞のofになります。 尚、ofが3回使われていますがsupreme以外は名詞が置かれていますので上の説明の通りです。 一方、supremeというのは「最高の、至高の」という形容詞ですので上記の説明が当てはまらず、むしろofがジャマなようにも見えてしまいます。 確認しますが、英文は正しく引用されていますか？ もしこのままで正しいのだとしたら、ここからは勝手な想像ですがsupremeのあとにimportanceが重複してしまうために省略されているという解釈で解決できそうに思います。

- "be of" の 使い方を教えて下さい。
"Time is of the essence." で "期限厳守" の意味になりますが、この文の"of"の使い方、意味合いが理解できません。 単に"Time is essential." でも同じ意味になると思いますが、 "be of the 名詞" で 表現するときの使い方やそこに含まれる意味合いを教えて下さい。

英語やり直し組です 本日「This matter is of grave concern to the United Nations」という文を見ました。 importanceとは違いof grave concrenのofは無くてもいいように感じたので色々調べてみたのですが Of greater concern is … Of immediate concern is … のようにofがあるのと My biggest concern is … concern is … のように無いのが多く見つかりました。 有っても無くても意味はわかるので気にする必要はないのかもしれませんがこの場合どっちでもいいのでしょうか？ お願いします。

I have a friend who told me that he had found God at hot spring in Japan. Unfortunately, you won't find much of God in America because I think hot spring are pretty rare..... 以上の文のGodは「大切なもの」ぐらいの意味で考えればよいのでしょうか？そして2番目に登場するGodは"that"のようなノリでGodを代名詞的に使っていると考えればよいのでしょうか？ 大体こんな感じという感じならば良いのですが、もし何かすごく重要なポイントがこのGodに含まれているようでしたら教えてください。 御願いします。
