ほとんどないという意味があります。 very little なので、ほとんどない、を強調してますから、ちっともない、でいいのです。 a little xxxxxxxxxだったら、ちょっとなんとかです。となりますので、little bit of interest とでもあれば、ちょっと興味がある、ですが。。。

文章で読むと、NO.1回答の方がおっしゃるように、「ほとんどない・・」という意味になってしまいます。 しかし、口語だと・・・言い方で「少し・・とっても少しの興味がある・・」っていうニュアンスにもなりえます。その場合は、先にも別の文章があって・・比較する対象がある場合とか・・ってことになりますが。あと、LITTLE部分を強調したりすると、「少しはある・・」っていう風に、聞き取れたりもします。日本語でもそうですが・・言い方次第で、微妙な意味の変化はありますよね～ テストなどでは、「ほとんどない」と訳すほうが賢明ですね～

下記英文が上手く訳できずに困っています。 The DPJ aims to provide 26,000 yen a month in fiscal 2011 and beyond as promised during the campaign for last year’s general election, but has yet to secure sufficient financial resources to pay for the allowances. 特にbeyond as promised 又has yet なのですが、これは否定のnotは必要ないのでしょうか？意味は 十分な財源がない となるとおもうのですが・・・。

下のような文章にぶつかりました。 単純に「so that」の構文だと思ったのですが、「challenges」のあとが「reason and belief」という名詞になっているので、わからなくなってしまいました。ちなみに、古い英文の本に載っていたもので、カンマ、ピリオド、スペルも確認してあります。 訳し方と、できれば文の構造を説明していただけれるとうれしいのですが。 I became well acquainted with him, and, little by little, he told me his story, so marvelous, that its very daring challenges reason and belief.

一度訳したのですがどうしても変な訳になって内容があまりよくつかめないのでどなたか訳していただけませんか⁇ Eventually in a friendship one can begin to take small services for granted - the loan of a dress, a phone call to find out vital information - but no one expects a real sacrifice. I rescued another neighbor's runaway dog, and she brought me a cake. In point of fact, most of us are human and like to be helpful and would not mind receiving only thanks for a good deed. It is not a coincidence that the only person on our block who borrows our garden tools was born in trinidad.
