統計学の用語？
こんにちは。 英語の論文を読んでいてわからないところがあるのでご教授おねがいします。 読んでいるのはスリランカの公衆衛生についての論文なんですが 1.[Individual diseases were sorted in descendant order of the correlation coefficient: “r”. ]という文中の[descendant order]という言葉がわかりません。これは流行の病気についてまとめた表を説明した文の一部なので統計学の用語かと思います・・・ 2.[In ascendant order the respective six ranks, except dental manpower, on the differences of RRMR between two countries are Nurses (-1.92)......]という文中の[ascendant order]という言葉がわかりません。これは医療従事者を職種別に分類した表についての説明文の一部です。 3.[The respective ascendant ranks of dental manpower according to the differences of RRMR are Dental Therapist (-0.80), Dental Technician (-0.37). ]という文の[ascendant ranks]という言葉がわかりません。これは上の2.と同じ段落にあった文です。

1. 降順 上から下への(decsendant) 順序(order)です。 2. 昇順 1と同様です。 3. 2と同様でないでしょうか。 descending とか ascending は頻繁に目にするのですが、descendantはあまり目にしません。だけど多分同じ意味でしょう。

これはただ昇順、降順です。プルダウンメニューのソーティングの際選択できるやつです。お役に立てるとうれしいな。

It is this and similar differences which make it possible to say that the inhabitants of the United States are in general racially distinct from the inhabitants of Mexico. この文章の It is this and similar differences which make it possible to say that the inhabitants of the United States are in general racially distinct from the inhabitants of Mexico. の文ですが、 this and similar differences の箇所ですが、 私はthisを代名詞と判断したのですが、 参考書には 「thisは単数形の、theseは複数形の名詞にかかるのが約束ですから、this differences とは言えませんが、ここはsimilarによって、「これと同種の〈相違〉」が追加されていますから複数形でよいのです。」 とあります。 そうなると this (differences) and similar differences という解釈をするのでしょうか。 しかし、 this similar differences であれば similar(同種の) がthisとdifferencesの間にあるから、分かるのですが、 this differences だけでは（同種の）という意味は追加されていないのではないでしょうか。

There is nothing of which we are so afraid as of death. 死より怖ろしいものはない。 という文について質問させてください！ nothing...so afraid as...の部分は「～ほど怖いものはない」を意味してると思うのですが、 afraid ofのofはどこに動いたと考えればよいでしょうか。 文中に二箇所"of"が出てくるのですが、asの後ろのofがafraid ofのものだとすると、 なぜ so afraid of as death でないのでしょうか。 さらに、whichの前のofはどのように考えればいいですか？ 関係代名詞の所有格というものでしょうか？？ どうぞよろしくお願いします。

回答ありがとうございます たしかにdescending、ascendingだったら類推できますね 書き手が日本人らしいのでdescendantを誤用してる可能性もあります
