"What kind of work does he do?" の意味ならわかるでしょうか？ 「彼はどんな仕事をしているのですか？」です。 What kind of work ＝ What view of the author's does he = does this anecdote do? = illustrate as an example? に対応します。完全に対応させて直訳すると 「この逸話はどんな著者の考えを例として描写しているのでしょうか？」となりますよね。

英語圏の現地校に通っている子どもの宿題の意味がよくわかりません。 杉原千畝の話を読んで質問に答えるものなのですが.... "How does the author's use of Hiroki's point of view add to the story?" "What does.....?" か "How does the author's use of Hiroki's point of view add (SOMETHING) to the story" だったらわかるような気がするのですが、記載通りだと「どのように、って何を？」って感じでわかりません。 それとも、SOMETHING added to the story は読めばわかるから書かれていないんでしょうか？ 教科書を持ち帰ることもできず困っています。

お世話様です。ある参考書に載っていた文の構造がわかりません。 What does the speaker say is one of the characteristics of the menu? ここで疑問なのが、What does the speaker say の部分です。 ここがWhat the speaker says の形なら何度も見たことありますが、 What does the speaker say が文頭に来て、is …と続く文章は見たことがありません。 しかも最後に「？」がついているので、疑問文扱いです。こんな形の疑問文てあるんですか？ 解説をお願いします。
