こんにちは。 普通に読むと、＃５さんのおっしゃる意味に取れるのですが・・・。 She jokes that I'm the love of her life. は、そのまま文字通りの意味にとってよいのではないでしょうか？ からかった、というかひやかした、というか・・・。 母親からすると 「娘もきっとあなたの事好きよ」 みたいな、あしらい方をしたように読めます。 彼女のお母さんに、「MMMのことすごく好きなんです」って言ったんです。 お母さんには、「娘もあなたの事大好きよ」と冷やかされます。 「ほんとなのか嘘なのか・・・」 みたいな彼の気持ちがjokesになっているのかと。

ジョン・メイヤーの曲、Heart Of Lifeの歌詞というか、タイトルの意味を、直訳ではなく、詩、Poetryとして解釈した場合、どういう意味になるかお教えください。 歌詞の一部を掲載しますと、 Pain throws your heart to the ground Love turns the whole thing around Fear is a friend who's misunderstood But I know the heart of life is good 最後の、Hear of Lifeの部分ですが、直訳だと、人生の心、となりますが、しっくりきません。 宜しくお願い致します。

The stories had little or no meaning for me then; but the mere spelling of the strange words was sufficient to amuse a little child who could do almost nothing to amuse herself; and although I do not recall a single circumstance connected with the reading of the stories, yet I cannot help thinking that I made a great effort to remember the words, with the intention of having my teacher explain them when she returned. 次のような訳しかできません。 模範の訳をお願いします。 その物語は少しも私には意味を成さない。 しかし珍しい単語のほんのしたスペルが自分を楽しませることができない少女を楽しませるのに十分なのである。 そして私はその小説を読んだことを思い出さないが、その言葉を覚えるのに私の努力があったことは、思わずにはいられない。 そして私の先生が戻った時、説明してもらおうとするのである？？？？？ single circumstance がわかりません。 最後の文の my teacher = she (returned) で良いのでしょうか？ 毎度のことながら、たまに（よく）このような文が出てくるので、なかなか進みません。 よろしくお願いします。

こんにちは！ここのところ何度もお世話になっています。回答をありがとうございます。 > 普通に読むと、＃５さんのおっしゃる意味に取れるのですが・・・。 はい、私も普通にそう受け取ったのですが、あまりにも「えええ！そんな事彼女の母親に普通言うかぁ？そしてお母さんもちょっと乗りすぎじゃない？」と思ったんです。で、ひょっとして「I'm the love of her life」には私の知らない意味があるのかなと思って質問させていただきました。 だから、 > 「ほんとなのか嘘なのか・・・」 > みたいな彼の気持ちがjokesになっているのかと。 「jokes」と言ったのが上の事を説明しているわけですね。つまりおっしゃる通り「あしらわれた」んですよね！
補足
しばらく皆さんの回答を考えてみました。私が質問に書いた文は彼の目から見た言葉ですね。彼の受け取り方でそう表現したということで、お母さんからもMMMからも私は直接聞いていません。この「彼の目から見た彼の受け取り方」という点から見ると、#5、#6の回答がよく理解できました。
