空所部は後ろの名詞とつながっていないので、名詞との関係で答えを決めていくのは間違っています。簡単に言えば、 Madness is a matter of social definition very much. Madness is an actual psychological condition very much. といった感じでbeを修飾して程度を表す副詞muchがあって、これらの程度が同等だということでas ...asの形にしています。（何でisのあとにmuchを置くのかという語順の問題には踏み込まない方がいいです） A whale is no more a fish than a horse is. のno more ... than構文と同じしくみです。

「自分の子供と同じくらいしか英語が話せない」を英語でどのように表現したらいいのでしょうか あまり話せないことを伝えたいので、as much as とか as well as ではどうもしっくりこない また、まったく同じでもないので、the same as もおかしな気がします。 自然な表現を教えてください
