この文では、longは継続用法ですが、everは経験のときに使います。 「今まで使われたことがある」という意味になってしますのではないでしょうか。

ever を肯定文で，「ずっと」という意味で用いるのは，as ～ as ever, ever since など決まった言い方のみで，他の場合は古い言い方になります。
