なんども失礼します。＃2です。 補足を拝見しました。私はあまり野球に詳しくないものですから、見たままで判断してしまい申し訳ありませんでした。状況がgoofさんの説明でよくわかりました。ありがとうございました。 そこで、私が思うになんですが、今回シスラーさんのお孫さんが今回言った言葉は、あくまでもシスラーさんが記録を達成した時と全く同じ状況ではなかったようですね。そこで私もオンラインで改めて記事をいろいろと検索しましたが、素直に褒めている・・というように感じました。ただ、彼女はすごくシスラー元選手を尊敬しているようですし、「心の奥底ではちょっと困惑していた」なんていうような記事も中にはありましたので、もしかすると 「今シーズン（だけは）素晴らしい選手だった」 とあえて "at the right time" と強調して言った可能性も全く否定はできませんが、 「（イチローは）言葉の壁を乗り越えて本当に良くやった」 などと褒めたたえる記事が目立ちます。個人的に、お孫さんはすごく良識のある方のように思います。多少の "混乱" や "悔しさ" みたいなものは間違いなくあったとは思いますが、この場面では素直に "褒めている" と考えてもいいのではないか？と個人的には思いますよ。あくまでも他の記事を見た上での推測にしかすぎませんが・・ あいまいな回答で申し訳ありませんが、補足の記事などありましたら是非お知らせください。

チームへの貢献とかはここでは関係ないように思います。ここはとにかく例の大記録の話です。それにチームは低迷してましたし。 イチローは(記録を達成するのに)もっともふさわしい人で、最高のタイミングでそれをやってのけた。 みたいな感じでしょうか。 at the right timeを上手に訳すのが難しいですね。もっといい訳を見つけてください。。

こんにちは。 ＃1さんの回答で充分だとは思うのですが、 right person は、（～するのには）もってこいの人、（～に）向いた人・・簡単に言えば、"適任者" という訳し方ができます。 at the right time は、ちょうどいい時（時期）や適切な時間・・などを示します。ですので、今回の場合はイチロー選手の今シーズンの活躍ぶりからして、 「イチローは今シーズン（のマリナーズにとって）もってこいの人物だ（だった）」 "イチロー選手は今のチームにとって、なくてはならない人物（だった）" のようにイチロー選手の重要性を示している雰囲気だと思いますよ。 参考になれば幸いです。

お世話になります。 the right person と at the right time の文字通りの意味は貴アドヴァイスによりわかりましたが。 彼女（シスラーのお孫さん）の言わんとしている事がイマイチはっきりしません。 背景はシスラーが84年前に造った記録が破られる当日シスラー家の人たちがはるばる（多分マスコミに招待されて）スタンドにいて、記録達成時の騒然とした中でのインタビューに答えて言った言葉です。 ですから、あくまでも記録達成にかかわるコメント、あるいは破られる故シスラー選手を代弁するようなな感想を皆が期待しているし、当然そうだと思いたいのですが。 かんぐりですが、別の場でシスラーの孫（男）が、イチローにはシスラーと同じ試合数で記録を達成してもらいたかったと言っていました。と言うことは内心イチローの記録は真の意味ではシスラーの記録を抜いていないよと言う思いが有るのかも知れません。 以上の背景からどう訳したらよいのでしょう。
