これはほぼ完璧だと思います。裁判所→裁判　にしました。。。　trial ＝裁判か審理だと思います。

＊すみません、英文がよく分かりません。勝手に補ってみましたが、これでいいのでしょうか？

（１）裁判所は、防御・弁護の文書を提出する義務はないが、被告が自己弁護の権利を有する場である。
（２）裁判所は、被告が自己弁護の権利を有する場である。ただし、裁判所は（それに対応する）防御・弁護の文書を提出する義務はない。

以上は、おそらく、的外れな（irrelevant）回答だと思います。再度、ヒントを与えていただければありがたいです。どうぞよろしく！

日本語では、defenseという言葉はないためこの文章は理解しにくいです。

I don't think my Japanese is correct however that's the meaning.

Defense ということは様々があります。弁護の陳述、証拠、弁護人、自分の供述など、など、など。。。。があります。　いろいろがあるため「防御」ということばを使いました。

防御は一般普通の人は使わないかもしれないが、法律専門用語みたいです。

ちなみにエッグノッグの作り方　（私が使っている作り方）

（材料）
550ml whole milk
200ml heavy or double cream
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/5 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/3 teaspoon nutmeg, plus more for garnish
4 eggs, separated （黄身と白身を別々にするという意味）
40g granulated sugar （皆さんのため4０gを使うですが、個人のためはその半分）
110ml Dark Rum (なしでも大丈夫）

In a saucepan, combine milk, cream, cinnamon, vanilla, and nutmeg. Bring to the boil over a medium heat. Once boiling, remove from the heat and allow to steep.

In a large bowl or stand mixer, beat egg yolks and sugar until combined and thick ribbons form when the whisk is lifted. Slowly whisk in the milk and continue to mix until the mixture is combined and smooth. Add rum, and stir. Refrigerate.
