<distribution function of a symmetric beta distribution> の意味は、 beta distributionには確率変数x(0≦ｘ≦１）に対して、x=0.5に対して対称的なものが あり、その中の一つ(a)のdistribution function（probability density function)と 云う事です。 shape parameter αとβが等しい場合に対称となるようです。 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beta_distribution 訳としては ＜・分布関数とは対称的なベータ分布＞、 ＜・対称的なベータ分布の分布関数＞ の内の後者でしょうが、解りにくい点があります。 表現を変えるなら 「（確率変数ｘ＝0.5で）左右対称なあるベータ分布の分布関数」 とでもなるのでしょうか。
