普通に学校文法をやっている人にとっては #1, 2 の方の回答は「え？」ということになると思います。 To speak English is difficult. ＝ Speaking English is difficult. 「英語を話すことは難しい」」 不定詞には名詞的用法があるので，普通に「～すること」は と主語になれる。 だから，日本の入試ではここでも To design ～，Designing ～ どちらでもいいです。 実際の英語では To see is to believe. と Seeing is believing. に違いがあります。 Nice to meet you. と Nice meeting you. 前者は出会ったとき，後者は別れるとき。 非常に単純には，不定詞の場合，It is ～のように形式主語を使うのが普通。 ～ing は現実的，to ～は未来的，非現実的，仮定的。 そういう意味で is certainly のような表現的にも～ing の方が自然なのだと思います。 My hobby is collecting stamps. が自然。 My goal is to study law in university. が自然。 All you have to do is (to) start at once. これからのことなので，starting は不自然。 to start が自然，さらには to を略すこともあり。 starting がよくなく，start でよい， 学校文法を普通にやっている人にとっては不可思議かもしれません。 そういう不定詞と動名詞の違い。 To ～で始めると，「～するために」と感じられる恐れもある。 ということで，#1, 2 の方のご指摘も正しいわけです。

えっ？まさかの最質問？ わたしが一番ラフだけど、お二方スゴイ丁寧に答えてると思います。 答えはどっちなんだって、そりゃ a に決まってるじゃないですか？ 厳しくいえばですが、日本語、英語問わず語学力の欠如です。 もうちょい回答者方々の話をよく読んだほうがいいと思う。。。 というか、最初にも申し上げたと思うんですが、 質問者さん、やはり文章の意味（真髄）を読み取ろうとしてない。 文章の意味の違いをよぉーく見てみて。 全然違うじゃん、aとｂ 簡単にいえば、aは名詞でしょ？bは名詞じゃないじゃん。 もうその時点でおかしいことに気がつかなきゃ。 でもtoが最初に来る時もあるよ、でもそれは～するために、なので to be with you, im getting ready for it. とかね。 前の回答者さんの例や なのでbはそれを日本語に訳してもおかしいわけですよ。 つまり日本語、英語にかかわらずおかしいということです。 英語のルールとシステムに集中しすぎてると、 英語もしかり語学全般に罠にはまりますよ。

a) Designing a fuel efficient vehicle 燃料効率のいい乗り物のデザインするには b) To design a fuel efficient vehicle 燃料効率のいい乗り物のデザインする為には となり To design a fuel efficient vehicle, we need to..... のように コンマとそのあとに S V のセンテンスが必要になります。 これは とっておきの技ですが To で 混乱したら to を In order to と置き換えて文章を読んだらいいです。 この問題でも In order to design a fuel efficient vehicle と読んだら これが間違いなのは すぐわかるでしょう？ これはトーイックの試験を受けるときにも大変たすかる技です。 日本人は 主語になるのは ingの形なのか to か 迷いやすいんです。 お勉強がんばってくださいね。

もうちょっと英語の文章を読むようにするべき。 部分的に追いかけていっるでしょ？それやると、のちのち苦労が耐えないと思う。 ｂとかあり得ない。理由とかない・・・bと言わないから、ｂは間違い。 toが最初に来る時って、to以降が目的でしょ？ そうすると文章がおかしいじゃないですか。

こんにちは、いつもお世話になります。 Bruce Foryce と Marielle Renssen著のMarathon Runner's HANDBOOKという本を読んでいてタイトルのような文構造が難しい文に出会いました。 長距離走に必要な食事の取り方を解説したページ（８２ページ）より引用します。 It is important for runner to follow a balanced diet with as much protain, carbohydrate and fat as is necessary to fuel their particular workload. 筋が通る文として理解するには「走者の個々のトレーニングにエネレルギーを補給する必要があるために、走者にとってたんぱく質、炭水化物、脂質を含むバランスのとれた食事をすることは重要です。」というような事をいっていると思うのですが、 この文は、 ・It is important for runner to follow a balanced diet with 「as much protain, carbohydrate and fat as」 is necessary to fuel their particular workload.という区切りでしょうか？ そうするとタイトルのような『as much ～ as ・・・「・・・と同量の」の・・・の部分が無い』ように」見えます。 それとも、 ・It is important for runner to follow a balanced diet 「with as much protain, carbohydrate and fat」 as (it) is necessary to fuel their particular workload.という「（先行する数詞に呼応して）aｓ much＝～と同量」であり、as muchはfollow a balanced dietにかかるのでしょうか？ ニュアンスとしては、「a balanced diet with as much protain, carbohydrate and fat バランスの取れた食事と同量の、たんぱく質、炭水化物、脂質を含む」みたいな感じでしょうか？ どうも文構造が掴めません 。 参考までに前後の文を転記します。 The key for successful marathon runner is balance, common sense and restraint. 辞書をひくと”人が結果を～原因に帰する”っとあります。 類義語をみるとcredit , connect with とありますが。。。はっきりしたニュアンスがつかめません。 A の結果Bになった＝A is attribute to Bっであっていますか？ 辞書の訳に”～のせいで～”っとありますが 例えば、be attribute to~は、 ””親の借金のせいで私は40歳近くまで借金返済に追われる。”” のような感じの”悪意”といいますか”陰のあるニュアンス” の意味になるんでしょうか？？ 長々とすみませんが、解説お願い致します！
