英語の文章の解釈が分かりません。
学校でジョークを訳してどういう意味なのかも調べてこいという宿題が出ました。大体の訳は出来たと思うのですが、このジョークがどういう意味なのかが分かりません。 A man walked a dress shop and told the clerk he wanted to buy a formal evening gown for his wife. "What," asked the clerk, "are your wife's measurement?" The man thought for a moment. "Small, medium and large," he declared, "and in that order." という文章で私は ある男が服屋に入って店員に妻の為の正装用ドレスを買いたいと言った。 「いったい」店員は尋ねた、「奥様のサイズはどれくらいでしょう？」 男性は少し考えた。 「小さいの、中くらいの、大きいの、」彼は公言した。「それを注文します」 と訳しました。 これはどういう意味なんでしょうか。 いろんなサイズの服を買ったとあるので浮気なのかなと思ったりもしているんですが… それ以前にこの訳が間違っているのでしょうか。 どなたか教えて頂けると幸いです。

ドレスの寸法を測る基本がBWH（bust, waist and hips）でスリーサイズといいます。 ですのでこの3つのサイズを上から言ったのでしょう。 店員がドレスのサイズを聞いたのに、答えが↓なので笑えるということなのでしょう。 「胸は小さめ、ウエストは並、ヒップは大きい、その順番のものをください。」

私は、サイズを聞かれて小さくて中ぐらいでそして大きい(服)と答えたので (thatは 複数形ではないので小・中・大の3サイズ買ったのではないと思います) 夫なのに、妻のサイズをまったくしらなくて、そんな服はあるはずもないのに 注文しますと言っているジョークだと思いました。

"Small, medium and large," he declared, "and in that order." 「小、中、大」彼は言った。「（上から）その順番だ」 orderは、「注文」じゃなくて、「順序・順番」の意味でしょう。 「バストは小、ウエストは中、ヒップは大」と言うことだと思います。

３つほど質問です (1)If argument is silenced,not only may error flourish unrestrained,but truth itself is held in a feebler and less vital manner. この一文なのですが、flourish の後ろに形容詞がきているのですが、辞書をひいても、flourishは補語をとらない（２文型をとらない）と思うのですが講義では倒置でＳＶＣと解釈してました。 (2)the man had done something unintelligible with the brick ,subsequent to which he walked away この一文のsubsequent to...の箇所ですが、subsequent toを前置詞(=after)と解釈し、前置詞＋関係詞とみなすということみたいなんですが、subsequentに前置詞の用法がないのですが＾＾； (3)We walked off the farm for good just after christmas,the year Patrick and I turned fourteen. christmas,the year Patrick and I turned fourteen. とありますが、ここはどう解釈したらよいのでしょうか？ the yearを接続詞（関係副詞の省略）ととると自分は解釈しましたが直訳が変な気がします。 ちなみに訳では ～１４歳になった年のクリスマス直後に とthe year以下の内容がchristmasを修飾してます。

Choose it or your happiness. 赤くハイライトされた3つのitはthat yearning を指すという理解であっているのか自信がないです。 また、青くハイライトされたfor が、ここでの文脈ではどのように使われているのかよくわからないです。 「see A as/ to be C 」 のように for の代わりに as やto beの方が適切なのでは？と感じるのですが、なぜ、ここでは、for が使われているのかわからないです。 「もっと、さらにより良く、いつか、という切望を見つけ出し、それをありのままみなしなさい。つまり、満足の敵であると。満足の敵か、あなたの幸せかどちらか選びなさい。」 ＊訳している際に3つ目のitが切望というよりかは、満足の敵の具体的な意味の方を指しているように感じましたが、自信がないです。 解説宜しくお願いします。
