can,wouldのニュアンスがよくわかりません。

まさしく、こういうcanやwouldは、理屈よりも「雰囲気」でとらえるものですよね。 ○canについて 「the taste can vary」は直訳すると「その味は変化し“得”る」です。つまり、味噌の味はregionやhouseholdによって、変わるかもしれないし、変わらないかもしれないわけです。もしもcanがなくて「the taste vary」だとしたら、味噌の味はregionやhouseholdによって、“必ず”変わることになります。厳密に言うとですが。 ○wouldについて 「families would grow up」は「家族は育って“いくものだ”」と訳すとしっくりきます。これに対して「families grow up」は「家族は育つ」というニュアンスです。後者は、どちらかというと、必ずそうやって育つんだと言いきっている感じですが、前者は「そういうもんなんだよねえ」というニュアンスが濃くなります。

先の回答者さんが適切な説明をしていらっしゃいますね。 補足ですが、そもそも can と would を比べることに誤解をはらんでいます。 can ------ could will ----- would may ---- might と現在形と過去形で 上記の様にリンクしています。 would の使い方が解らなかったら、辞書で引くと丁寧に書いてありますよ。

一番の"can"は可能性があるというニュアンスで、二番の"would" はここでは単に "will" の過去形です。 つまり、昔はお味噌は各家で作られていたので、土地から土地ばかりでなく各家々でも味が違う可能性が（ことが）あったという感じです。（でも、それ "could" になるべきですよ。過去の話ですから。） で、その昔の時点から見て後々（未来に）家族は育っていくので "will" ですが、これもまた過去の話をしているので、"will" の過去形の "would" になっています。 変な日本語ですみません。分かって頂けたでしょうか。

（１）の文章から "can" を、（２）の文章で "would" を取りさっても 成立するでしょうか、その場合 それぞれの文章のニュアンスはどのようになるのでしょうか？

ある文法書に If you go,I'll go. 「（君が行く意思があるかどうかわからないが）君が行くなら僕も行くよ」 に対比させて If you will go,I'll go.「君が行くつもり（行く[意思]があるなら）なら僕も行くよ」 willを強く読めば「どうしても行くと言うなら」という[固執]の意味になる。 If...willは相手の意思に気を使うので「ていねい」な依頼の表現になり、wouldを使えばさらにていねいになる。 例）If you would come this way,I'll take you to the restaurant.(=Please come this way.) 「こちらにいらしてくださればレストランまでお供します」（＝こちらにいらしてください） ある英英文法書にも 一般的にif...wouldは使わないとあり But you can use "if ...would" when you ask somebody to do something:(from a formal letter) I would be grateful if you would let me know your decision as soon as possible. 他書籍にも、I would like some coffee.=If it wouldn't be a problem,I would like some coffee. とありIf... wouldは丁寧表現なんだとわかりましたが、willの「固執」の意味を残してif...wouldを「どうしても～されるというなら」という意味合いは出せないのでしょうか？？
