訳でわからないところがあります。教えて下さい。
・The smaile may no longer be an effective way to mask one's true feelings. ほほえみは真の感情を隠す手段としては、もはや効果的な方法ではない。 ・By the time we are adults, we may stop participating in phycical play altogether. 大人になる頃には体を使った遊びに加わることは全くやめてしまう。 この２文は[may」の「～かもしれない、～だろう」というニュアンスが ないのはどうしてですか。

ニュアンスとして「～と思われる」が間違いなくありますが、多分前後の文章の構成上、省略しても問題ないと翻訳者が判断されたのではないでしょうか。 部分的に比較するとこのような事は変に強調される為、誤解を招く事になり兼ねないので、前後の部分も合わせて考える必要があるかと存じます。

私の解釈では、「～かもしれない」というニュアンスがあります。ただそれが日本語にはっきり表れていないだけ、前後の文の関係で日本語訳を上記訳文にしたまでと推測します。もしくは訳に正確性がないと思います。 宿題やテストならばクレームをつけますが。 他の方の意見も聞いてみてください。

どうもありがとうございました。 英訳を読んだ時点ではmayを訳してはいけないものなのかと思って いましたが、そうではないようですね。前後の英文の関係を考慮しながら もう一度自分なりに訳してみます。

どうもありがとうございました。 英文は論文みたいなものなのですが、英訳した方はふたつとも （このふたつの質問は各々、別の論文からのものですが）mayの訳を 省いて（？）いたのでmayのニュアンスは訳してはいけないものなのか とも思ってました。 もう一度自分で全体を訳してみます。
