日本語の英訳を添削して下さい
シュルツ氏の漫画『ピーナッツ』に関する文章を英訳しているのですが、 自信がありません。正しい英訳の文を教えて下さい。宜しくお願いします。 1. ピーナッツの魅力は、著者の深い人間観察に基づく登場人物たち ― 特にチャーリー・ブラウンにある PEANUTS's charm is that characters are based on the author's deep man watching -- especially, Charlie Brown. 2. それを、彼の家族や友達との関係を通して考えていく I think it that thorough his family and friends relationship. 3. チャーリー・ブラウンは、しばしば事態を悲観的に考え、 自分の不幸に関してじっと考え込む Charlie Brown often takes a pessimistic view of the situation and he thinks deeply about his misfortune. 4. だから、彼は目標や成功の為に頑張る必要がある That's why, he need to challenge harder for his purpose and success. 5. 思考錯誤しながら生きる彼が主人公だからこそ、 ピーナッツの物語は私達の心を打つのである。 He is living by trial and error PEANUTS's stories impressed us deeply. 6. 従って、チャーリー・ブラウンの魅力はピーナッツの魅力だと言える Therefore, Charlie Brown's charm is PEANUTS's charm.

正しいかどうかは分かりませんが、 １）charmとはちょっと違う雰囲気かも。私ならappealを使います。 The appeal of PEANUTS comes from the author's profound observation of human behaviour in his characters - especially Charlie Brown. ２）relatioshipよりinteractionを私なら使います。 This can be better understood by looking into his family and friends and their interactions. ３）ownを入れたくなります。又、meditationの方が合っているかな？ Charlie Brown has a tendency to look at situations in a rather pessimistic manner, which often leads him into deep meditation about his own misfortune. ４）ここの「頑張る必要がある」との意味が良く分かりませんが、 This is the reason which drives him to aim for success and reach his goals. ５）impressよりempathyの方が良いかも。 His trial and error way of life as the main character in PEANUTS strikes an empathy with all of its readers. ６）ちょっと伸ばしますが、意味はそのままのつもりで。 It is clear that the appeal of PEANUTS to its readers is due to the character and appeal of Charlie Brown himself. こんな感じでしょうか。

phaedrusです。 human natureはとても良いフィーリングですが、observeとつながらないのがネック。 understanding of human natureなら良いですが、質問者がそのフィーリングを使いたいのかが不明。 his trial and error way of life もかなり無理した英訳です。元々日本語での試行錯誤しながら生きるとのフィーリングが理解できていないのが問題。His good imtentions often turn out the wrong way but his heart is pureとか、his constant efforts to get thing rightの方が分かり易いかも。これでgood ですね。His constant efforts to get things right as the main character in PEANUTS strikes an empathy with all of its readers.完璧！ Charmでもattractionでも良いと思いますが、私はマンガの評価ならthe appeal of the comic to people in general と言うちょっと堅い言い方を好むだけです。 これ以上質を上げたいなら有償になります！な～んちゃって(^^) さあ、twopenceさん、どれが一番気に入りますか？

少し訂正させてください。 「"charm"は、内面を表しています」というこの言葉ですが、正確には「内面も」ですね。細かいけど・・・ またまた細かいけど、Ｐさんの"his trial and error way of life"っていうのも、少しフィーリングが違うような気がします。うまく説明できないけど・・・ 「自分で試行錯誤するのを選んでる」ような気がするのは、僕だけかな。

一つ、言い忘れました。 「一般の人が魅力を感じるならappeal、個人的な意見としての魅力であればcharmと私は区別します。」Ｐさんの、この考え方は分かります。 これは、僕が言っていることとあまり変わりはないんですよ。 それはですねぇ、"appeal"というのは外見を表しているから、多くの人が同じような魅力を感じるんですよ。それとは逆に"charm"は、内面を表していますから、個人個人がそれぞれ違う魅力を感じるんです。 従って、もう分かりますよね、Ｐさんなら。 本というのは、読者によって感じ方が違いますよね。 ここは、やはり"charm"の方がいいような気がします。 あと、"attraction"ってのもありましたねぇ。 でも、検索すればどれも出てきますけどね。 あっ、もう寝ます。

こんばんわです、Ｐさん。 "lead(s) to"は、チャンチャラおかしいですね。どうかしてたみたいですねぇ。 そう、"be linked to"とか"be related to"などを考えてたんですけどね。 ハハハ、パクリと思われても仕方がないですね。でもたまたま同じになっただけですよぉ。"human beings"ですが、最初、"human nature and behaviour"としようか、と思ったんですけど、二つをひっくるめて「人間」としました。ダメかな。 そうですね、やはりlikelyはおかしいっすねぇ。「しばしば」でしたっけ？hehehe では、僕の番です。 Ｐさん（１）の訳だと、「魅力は人間観察にある」ですよね。少し意味が違うのでは？ "It is concluded",考え方の違いかなぁ。自分の考えを書くのに遠慮は無用だと僕は思います。 また、何かあればケチつけにやってきますね。おやすみなさい！

phaedrusです。 むむ！challengeですか、electioneeringさん！ 先ず、charmとappealですが、これは確かに個人差があると思います。 でもShe is charmingとShe is appealingの違いは分かりますか？ この場合、一般の人が魅力を感じるならappeal、個人的な意見としての魅力であればcharmと私は区別します。微妙ですが。 keen observationは私のパクリなのでOK。human beingsとなると人間だけなので、人間観察にはならないのでは？ is likely toはしばしばとはちょっと違うかも。 （６）の文章がよく分かりません。leads toが？です。代わりにcan be linked toはどうでしょうか。 It can be concluded that ...でも可能でしょう。It isではあまりにも遠慮がないように感じます。 ところで、私の訳にケチつけても良いですよ。かなり完璧ですが！(^o^)

回答ありがとうございます。 確かに「魅力」という英単語の使い方は、私も迷いました。 辞書をひくと、単語によっては、「異性に対する性的な魅力がある場合に使う」 というように書かれていたりして。 単語を選ぶのも難しいと感じます。

こんばんわ！僕も久々に英訳にトライしてみよっかなぁ。 でも、（２）と（４）に関しては、少し意味が分かりにくかったので、英訳してません。あとは僕なりに訳してみました。 （１）The charm of the comic "PEANUT" lies in the character descriptions, especially for Charlie Brown, based on the author's keen obsevation of human beings. 僕は、"charm"でいいと思うんです。"appeal"って「外見の魅力」なのでは？ そんな感じがしますねぇ、"appearance"って言うでしょ。 （３）Charlie Brown is likely to get/be pessimistic and lost in thought about his circumstances. 「不幸」というのを省きました。「不幸について考える」って、「悲観的」と同じ意味じゃないのかな、と思って。 （５）His life through trial and error gains empathy from the readers. That's why the story touch them deeply. 「主人公として」は省きました。 （６）It is clear that the charm of Charlie Brown leads to the one of the comic "PEANUT". 「結論」ということを強調したいなら、"it is concluded that"などと訳せますが、少し堅い論文調になります。 参考になれば嬉しいです。また、みなさん、僕の訳に「ツッコミ」入れて下さいね。

うーん。 人の考えというのを表現にするのは結構難しいものですが、なかなか他のご回答がないようなので、とりあえずご参考まで。 1.PEANUTS's charm comes from its characters depicted on the author's preeminent insights into humanity --- especially, Chalie Brown. 2.うーん。明確には日本語の意味がつかめませんでした。 I think とありますので、ご自身が訴えたいということであれば、 I'll explain this through the relationship among him and his familly and friends. 3. Chalie Brown often takes a situation that he faces pessimistically and he is worried about his misfortune. 4.すいません。前の文との意味がつながらなくてどう書いてよいのか。 But he struggles with it and tries to do his best for his purpose and success. では間違いですか？ 5.Such his way of life, trial and error, impresses on us deeply. 6.Therefore, Chalie Brown's charm is the PEANUTS's. なんか私の試訳でも２番の文と後ろの文がつながっていないのですが、、、。

Many of his decision and judgment are based on emotion. He likes to be on his own, but solitariness does not bring out the best in his character, it makes him more insular, more suspicious more inward turned and unstable and escapist. 翻訳をお願いします。 He has very few characteristic mannerisms of his own. Little to draw attention to himself... He is absent minded indolent and low spirited in the mornings. His energy levels fluctuate with his mood. He has a stiffness in posture of the back on rising from his seat, but he has no particular characteristics mannerisms to describe. He rubs or scratches the ear occasionally. May move his feet for no reason. But no habitual mannerisms. He does not exhibit much outer self confidence or command in his manner, that’s not to say he doesn’t have it, just it doesn’t show. But he has a kind of muted quite refinement about him, and is generally well disposed towards others. He is never offensive or unapproachable in manner. He is more unobtrusive Kindly when approached. He stays on the edges and doesn't exert himself. He often gives the impression of being mentally else where, of not paying attention to the moment, not very focused.. There is little to draw attention to him. So with his quite demeanor, he tends to blend into the background.
