＞Vがどれになるのかわからず悩んでいます。わかる方、教えてください。 ○ たぶん、お悩みの原因は、動詞を「belonged」単独とするか「belonged to」という前置詞を含めたものにするのかということではないでしょうか。前者であれば文全体の文型が「SV」に、後者であれば「SVO」になってしまいますので、その違いは大きいですね。 ○ 結論から言えば、動詞は「belonged」だけになります。判断の基準は受動態にできるかどうかです。たいていの場合、目的語を含む文は受動態に書き換えることができます。（ただし、目的語を含むすべての文が受動態にできるわけではないことはご承知おきください。何事にも例外はありますので・・・。） ○ そこで、お尋ねの英文を「Business places (that ...) was belonged to ( by majority ...)」という受動態にしてみます。かなり不自然な感じがします。「belong(ed) to ...」を用いた英文を受動態の文にすることはできないのです。 ○ したがって、原則的に考えれば、お尋ねの英文の中の「business places」は目的語ではないということが分かります。（「to」といっしょになって「修飾語」の働きをしています。）その結果、動詞は「belonged to」ではなくて「belonged」のみであると判断することになります。 ○ では、例えば「Tom spoke to me in the bus.」という英文の場合には、どう判断しましょうか。同じように、動詞の後に「to ...」が続いています。 ○ こちらは、「sopke to」を動詞と判断して、文全体の文型は「SVO」となります。その理由は、「I was talked to by Tom ...」という受動態に書き換えができるからです。したがって、元の英文の中の「me」は目的語であり、その結果「spoke to」が動詞であると判断することになります。 ○ ご質問のお答えと、その理由がお分かりいただけたでしょうか。参考になれば幸いです。

the majority of the doors belonged to business places that had long since been closed. 主語は、仰るとおり、the majority of the doors、 動詞は、 belongedです。 従来の学校文法で言うと、目的語が動詞の直後にきていないため、第一文型とするところです。

（英文） The Term 'ethnic cleansing ' showed up in this paper about a year and a half ago, and has been in regular use since to describe what Serbian forces have been doing in parts of the former Yugoslavia. なのですが、特にわからない部分は、「has been in regular use since to」です。sinceはどこにかかるんでしょう？useは動詞ですか？in regularはこの文の中でどんな働きをしていますか？そもそもこれはどういう文型なのでしょう。どなたか文法を詳しく教えて下さい。

こんにちは、いつもお世話になります。 Colleen McCullough著のANTHONY AND CLEOPATRAという本を読んでいます。 質問と言うよりは確かめ（のつもり）なんですが、 今迄、接続詞のsinceを偶然良く見てきたもので、ちょっと下記の文のsinceを見た時は驚いたんですが、要するに副詞のsince（今までの間に）として使われれいるんですよね？ 背景：Octavianの回想シーン。 カエサル暗殺事件後からの自分の人生を改めて振り返っている。 He encounters with Anthony hadn't been numerous since, but at each of them he had found himself stronger, until, at the last such, he had spoken his mind withut even the faintest falter in his breathing. ここのsinceですが、副詞なので、He encounters with Anthony hadn't been numerous since (the assassination of Caesar又は the incident 等)が省略されているわけではないんですよね？ sinceといったら今迄、接続詞か前置詞しか無いと思い込んでいました、辞書を見てビックリです。（大泣） よろしくお願い致します。

A lot of schools were closed because it had snowed heavily on the previous night. ☆完了・経験・継続・大過去から選べという問題ですが、自分には選べません。自信がないですが完了ですか？「前の日に雪がずっと降っていた」と考えて、「継続」は駄目ですか？forやsinceなど継続を表す語句がないからですか？

祖母の話です。 祖母というワードは前の文章で出しています。 「居酒屋」をJapanese barとしました。 彼女の夫が退職した後、夫と居酒屋を9年前まで経営していた。居酒屋をオープンして約10年で彼らは店を閉めた ＝She had run the Japanese bar with her husband until 9 years ago after her husband retired him job. About ten years since they had been opened the bar, they closed down it. このように英文にしたのですが文法的にあっているか見て欲しいです。 よろしくお願いします。
