英語でこのような表現を見つけました。「○○といえば、ＸＸの別名」といえるようなものが、現在の日本にもあるでしょうか。教えていただければ嬉しいです。 by-word/byword: 「あだ名」 「市役所」といえば「働かない」というように、結びつけて使われることば。多くは悪い意味で用いられる。市役所の関係者がいらっしゃったらごめんなさい！ 英英辞典の例文です。ただし、訳は私です。 Britain was a byword for strikes. 英国と言えば、ストライキの別名だ。 His name became a byword for extreme luxury. 彼の名は、「贅沢のきわみ」の別名となった。 どうぞよろしく！

いわゆる隠語が一般化したものってのがこれに当たりませんか？ 隠語って引くと結構出てきます。 桜田門といったら警察（警視庁） > 元は地名 シンナーのことをアンパン（あんまり使いませんが） 刑務所に入ることをくさい飯とか こうしてみると、警察関係の用語が多いですね。 では、他の例を。 接客業ではトイレに行くことをいろいろな表現であらわしますね。 私が聞いたことがあるのは「横浜」です。 （市外局番から来ている） あと、新人（新入社員、新入部員）のことをお客様とか言いません？ 路線がずれていたらごめんなさい。

「○○といえば、ＸＸの別名」・・・無限にあるような。 対象が何か によって変わってきます。 対象が観光名所なら 日本といえば京都、富士山 フランスといえばパリ ニューヨークといえば自由の女神、マンハッタン 対象が名産品なら チャイナといえば中国製陶器・磁気 ジャパンといえばSUSI(寿司)、浮世絵 インディゴといえば藍(藍染) 韓国といえばキムチー 対象が人なら ロンといえばヤス 漫才といえばヤスキヨ あー、いかん歳がバレる。

出っ歯といえばすけべ みたいなものでしょうか？ これは、昔、トイレを覗いてつかまった人が出っ歯だったからという実話かららしいです。雑学本で読みました。 他にもあった気がするので、何か思い出したら書きますね。
