コンマの使用方法について

コンマ以下の文章in the heart of Chicago's Magnificent Mileは、最初のTHe Hancok Observatoryと同格と言うか、最初の単語をより詳しく説明しています。コンマは無くても意味通ると思いますが、あった方が分りやすいと思います。

下記の文の様なカンマの使い方は日本語の用法的にはなんと言われるのでしょうか？ 1つ目のカンマと２つ目のカンマ両方の用法を教えてください。 ひとつ目のカンマの後も、二つ目のカンマの後も完全は文ではないですが、自分で文章を書く時はカンマでは完全な文を接続詞なしでつなぐ事は出来ないというルールが頭に浮かんで、この様な表現で書けません。（読む分にはわかるのですか。。） 理解を深めたいので、教えてください。 また、2つ目のカンマの後の,making Minoru Mori the.......も僕が書くとしたらmadeとやりたくなるのですがなぜmakingなのでしょうか？ あわせてアドバイスお願い致します。 The result was the Roppongi hills, a suite of office buildings yielding 1.8 million square feet of leasable space at a cost of $100 million, making Minoru Mori the largest holder of real estate in Tokyo. お願いします。

自分で作った文章で申し訳ないのですが、 I traveled in Europ this summer, it was disappointing to see lots of Japanese people anywhere I went. この文章、正しいですか？（コンマで強引につないだことを言っているのですが、他のところで間違いがあったらごめんなさい） こういう感じの強引な接続をネイティブ（学生）がよく使っている（その文章自体はちょっといま見つけれられません。。ごめんなさい。）のを見かけます。 しかしなんと面白いことが。 ＧＥＮＩＵＳ（大修館書店）の Ｃｏｍｍａ の項に、成句として comma fault [splice] 〔文法〕コンマの誤用《接続詞を用いず2つ以上の分をコンマで結ぶこと》. と書いてあります。これはどないなことなんでしょう？その comma faultというのは、ずばり今挙げた文章のことをさしているのでしょうか？ 私ども英語学習者としてはそのような文章を書かないほうがいいのでしょうかね？ ネイティブの文章を見つけ次第書きますので、 それまでご辛抱の程よろしくお願いします。 もしご存知の方、いらっしゃいましたらご教示ください。
