Studying the effects of chemicals on signaling pathways in animal models should help facilitate understanding of abnormal development in humans. という文についてなのですが、この場合、「facilitate」と「understanding of abnormal development in humans」の間で倒置が起こっており、facilitateが原形不定詞で、もともとはhelp＋O＋Cの形だった・・と考えてよいのでしょうか？ （signaling pathwaysは「信号を送っている経路」animal modelは「動物モデル」facilitateは「促進する」という意味の動詞のようです） よろしくお願いします。

確かに SVOC で，O が長くなると，SVCO のように，Oを後に回すこともあります。でもこの文はそれとは違います。 help には help O ＋(to) do の他に，help (to) do のように，help の後に直接不定詞が来る用法があります。人が主語なら，「～するのを手伝う」，この文のように無生物主語なら，「～するのに役立つ」という意味になります。今までも何回か質問されていますので，案外盲点になっているのかもしれません。 understanding ～は facilitate の目的語であり，「～を理解することを促進する」となります。

#2です。思うに，原形不定詞や to 不定詞が SVOC の C になる場合，C の部分はある程度長くなるでしょうし，SVCO としてしまうと，O の部分が不定詞で用いられている動詞の目的語のように取られかねないことから，SVCO となることはほとんどないと思います。 あと，understanding of ～となっていますので，understanding は動名詞というよりも，完全に名詞化し，facilitate understanding of ～で，「～の理解を促進する」となっています。

前後の文脈がないので、断言は出来ませんが、普通の、主語＋help+原形動詞＋目的語の文型ではないですか。 You must help cook dinner. と同じ文型です。
