Purple finger
こんばんは。 Time誌を読んでいて、どうしても意味の分からないフレーズがあります。 「purple finger」です。 Bush would have people think it's just about a purple finger. という一文です。内容はイラクに関するもので、民主主義についてのコラムです。 Joe KleinのDemocracy, the Morning Afterというコラムです。

In Iraq, the purple finger was the mark of a voter. 昨年、イラクで戦後初めて投票をした際、日本でいう「選挙人登録簿」に当たるものがなかったので、１人が２回投票しないように、指に特殊な紫色のインクを塗って、投票をした印としました。それをpurple fingerと言って、政治的立場を表すような意味にもなりました。 上記の文の意味は、前後の文章を読まなければ確定できません。今は、どうか知りませんが、Timeは、皮肉やタイミーズ（spellを忘れました）やらで、一筋縄ではいかないところがありました。

So you can see why I believe that Americans are obsessed with time. All of the Americans I know have wristwatches, but many of my Latino friends don't regularly wear one.I don't, Americans are always setting their watches, making sure the time is 'exact.' I once heard two American students arguing about what time it was.One said, 'It's 3:45.' The other said,'No,It's not! It's 3:48, you idiot!'That's how Americans think about time.It's the most important thing in their lives. People do think about time differently after all.It seems to me,thought, that the American and Latino students do everything they're supposed to do.They work and study about the same amount. But the Latinos don't feel as pressured by time as the Americans do. It's no wonder that Americans are so stressed out.

今回初めての英検です。 明後日の11日に英検の2級の二次試験を受験します。 どうしても2次試験の模擬テストが上手くいきません。 というのも私はアスペルガーで質疑応答の問題が非常に苦手です。 これは英語だからという訳ではなく日本語で質問されても答えられないと思います。 3級から準1級までなら1次試験は過去問6回全てで70点以上で合格します。 例えばこんな質問です These day many students are taking lessons after school. Do you think it's good idea. どう思うか？と言われてもどうも思わないのです。 それが良いアイデアなのか悪いアイデアなのかはその人個人が決めることなので私には解らないとしか答えられません。 英検の2次試験ってこんなよくわからない問題が結構あります。 参考書を見ても I agree や disagree, yes, no, I don't think so.などとどちらかの回答しかありません。 I don't know, I have no idea. I don't know what the others people are thinking, so I can't answer. じゃダメなんでしょうか？ 上記はただの一例です。 どうしたら良いのか迷ってます。
