He did the rial workってどういう意味ですか？
洋書論文を読んでいて、こんな表現がでてきました。I am extremely grateful for help during the preparation of this paper to Mr.Michael Hirst,who did the real work. real workって私としてはいろんな意味にとれるんですが、どう思いますか？ 論文を書いた教授が助手さん？をねぎらう為に、「よくやってくれた」と言っているのか、realという言葉を辞書で調べたら、誠実な、という意味があったので、「誠実な仕事をしてくれた」ということなのか・・・・ ただ後者は誠実な仕事ってなんやねん？って思いますが・・・

これは謝辞の一部でしょうから、当然誉め言葉で、少々大げさな言い方でも構わないと思います。そのことを念頭に置きながら、この言葉を解釈すれば、「(この論文を書いたのは私ですが、その基になった資料収集とかデータ解析とか、そういった)実質的な仕事をしてくれたのは・・・」ということだと考えます。 参考までですが、この辺りを具体的に説明しているのが次の引用です。 ・・・the Secretary-Treasurer was the one who did the real work to keep the section going.・・・The Secretary-Treasurer put together the program, coordinated with the local host, oversaw schedules and deadlines, produced and distributed all meeting announcements, and communicated with the national office. （ちょっとしたアドバイスや援助ではなく）実質的な，中身のある仕事，と言う意味だと思います。 Webで，real workを検索してみてください。たくさんの表現が出てきますが，とくに The real work is now only beginning. またはこれに近い表現は決まり文句です。本当に大変な仕事はこれからだ，と言う意味でしょう。

有る問題集で Although, he did said the banquet after the performance was nice. という文章が有りました。 he said the～で意味は通るはずですが、何故didがあるのか？ 何故didもsaidも過去形なのか？ 文法的にどういう用法なのかご存知のかた教えてください。

こんにちは。 お世話になります。 英語初学者です。 英語のドラマを見ていたら、 「Love and law are the same... Romantic in concept,but the actual practice can give you a yeast infection」 という文と 「But I actually did like my job」 という文に出くわしました。 この中の 「Romantic in concept」 の意味と、 「did」 の意味がそれぞれ分かりません。 特に「did」は、辞典を見たところ「do」には強調する意味がある、と書いてありましたが、 これの過去形なのでしょうか？ しかし、だとしたら、過去のことを言っていない会話の中でdidは変だと思います。 二つとも、さっぱり見当が付きません。 どなたか、教えては下さいませんでしょうか？ よろしくお願いいたします。
