論文を書いていて困ってます。 The author does not know whether or not ＋「長い文」. の形の文章は The author does not know whether or not 文Ａ and whether or not 文Ｂ． などのように分割したほうが良いのでしょうか？ 例 筆者は彼が金持ちなのか、飛行機を持っているのか知らない。 The authour does not know whether or not he is rich and has an airplane. 修正例 The authour does not know whether or not he is rich and whether or not he has an airplane. そもそも例として挙げた文章は英訳が間違ってるんでしょうか？ 論文として書いているので、できるだけ細かいことまで教えていただけるとありがたいです。修正例の、「and」の前にはコンマを入れた方がよいのでしょうか？ なお、僕は理系です。また、実際の「長い文」には例よりもずっと長い学術的文章が入ります。

他の質問者の文からなのですが、 Use this to determine whether the sensor is looking for the label to be placed on the same object as the sensor, within the sensor’s detection radius, or either of these. という文で、 whether の使い方は、whether A or B (not), などと覚えたのですが、 ふつうのorの使い方のように 「AやBやCやDなど」を whetherで whether A文、B、C or Dなどと使うことは可能なのでしょうか？ お願いいたします。

以下のTOEFL問題集の英文に関し質問です。 よろしくお願いいたします。 Whether a society is an industrialized society or a post-industrial society will greatly influence whether the populationis centralized in large cities in order to provide labor for heavy industry or whether it is more dispersed in suburbs and bedroom commumities. この英文の下から2行目のwhetherは省略できないのでしょうか？？？ 素人的には、あると邪魔に思えるのですが、どうでしょうか。 Whether a society is an industrialized society or a post-industrial society will greatly influence whether the population is centralized in large cities in order to provide labor for heavy industry or it is more dispersed in suburbs and bedroom commumities. にすると、意味がおかしくなるのでしょうか？？？ よろしくお願い申し上げます。

最初に文法書、辞書には普通は not to と書いてあります。 この前、英英辞典を見てたら [miss] 1.to not be able to go to something or do something と書いてありました。これは自分の勘では not to にすると「何処かに行く、または何かをすることをできない」となり、辞書通りだと「何処かに行けない、または何かをすることができないこと」と「こと」で”説明っぽさ”が出ているように思いました（toはtoだけど）。まずこれを皆さんどう思いますか？ 次にこれだと両方意味は同じですが、ネットで --- http://okwave.jp/qa/q2217132.html No.7 What I said is not to do it. 私が言ったのはそれをやれではない、とWhat I said is to not do it私が言ったのはそれをやるなです。 No.5 １．What I asked him is to not go there. なぜなら、これを、 ２．What I asked him is not to go there. とすると、意味が変わってしまうから。つまり、 １は、「そこへ行かないように頼んだ。」であるのに、２は、「そこへ行くことを頼んだのではない。」となるから。 --- 意味が変わっています。こういう場合もあるのでしょうか？ 回答よろしくお願いします。

- whether構文を教えてください。
But we must ask whether it is as permanent as a reflex,whether the animal will continue to salivate if we continue to present the light unaccompanied by food powder. whetherはすごく苦手な構文の1つで、これが出てきた瞬間英文を読む速度がガクっと下がります。 克服したいのですが、whether構文についてどなたか教えていただけないでしょうか。 ちなみに上記の英文を訳したところ、 「しかし私たちは、反射が永続的だろうと、もし私たちが肉粉に付随しない光を呈示する場合に動物が唾液を分泌しようとも、尋ねなければならない。」となりました。ちょっとむちゃくちゃで、 自分でもどこが間違っているのかわからないです。 どこの理解が及んでいないのか、どうすればよかったのか、教えて頂けないでしょうか。

My aunt likes to tell jokes ( ) they are funny or not. (1)ｉｆ (2)ｗｈｅｔｈｅｒ 括弧に入るのはどちら？ （答え：(2)ｗｈｅｔｈｅｒ） という問題なんですがなぜ答えがｗｈｅｔｈｅｒに定まるのかがわかりません。 「if」のすぐうしろに「or not」が来るのはマズイとは思うのですが、 今回の問題はすぐうしろでないのでｉｆでもｗｈｅｔｈｅｒでも良いと思うのですが 誰か解説してください。

I don't know whether /if you like better A or B. この文をEitherを目的後の後に置き、Either A or B you like better.とすることはできないのでしょうか？おそらく否定文では両方が否定されるので、できないと考えるのですが。 また「ChristianityかIslamのどちらが正しいかわからない」 及び「あなたがAかBのどちらが好きかどうかは分からない」とする場合、whethher/if若しくはeitherを目的語として用いることはできないでしょうか？一つが対象物なら※I don't know whether/if A is righ or notとすることは容易に思いつくのですが、やはりwhichを使ってI don't know which religion is right, Christianity or Islam./I don't know which smething you like better,A or B.とした方が良いのでしょうか？最後に疑問なのですがWich do you like better,A or Bで、平叙文にする場合に、I don't know wich you like better,A or Bと見ないのですが使える用法なのでしょうか。使えるならばwhichは間接疑問ということになるのでしょうか（そもそもbetterも入れるべきか疑問なのですが）？ 長文ですが宜しくお願い致します。
