未来時制と現在時制が混在していますが、何か特別な意味がありますか？
以下の英文は、Huangさんの言ったことばですが、you must pay ～ he is indeed at home; の部分が現在時制になっているのは、なぜですか？ as soon as ～I will be there. の部分は、すでに教えていただきました。 Huang: "You will have a chance to avenge your brother's death. The day after tomorrow I will be coming to check levies in the eastern district. Early morning you must pay a visit to Wang San and make sure he is indeed at home; I will tell Yu Piao to be hiding behind the garden wall, and as soon as you have told Yu, I will be there.

マイケル・スワンの Practical English Usage という文法書によると、 「未来の義務」については、will have to が用いられるが、手はずがすでに整えられている場合は have (got) to が好まれる、また未来の事柄に対して命令や指示を与える場合は must を用いることができる、ということです。 この場合は「未来の事柄に対して（Wang San を訪ねて彼が本当に家にいるかどうか確かめろという）指示を与えている」ので must という現在形が使われるのだと思います。 mustを have to に変えた場合も「手はずがすでに整えられている」場合に当たるので will have to よりも have to のほうが好ましいでしょう。

まず，mustがwill have toになっていないのは，payするのは未来のことでも，「しなければならない」と思っているのは今だからでしょうか。will have toでもよいと思いますが，よくわかりません。make sure (that) SV「...するように注意する」や，see to it that SV「...するように取りはからう」のthat節は目的語で名詞節のように見えますが，日本語でも「するように」となるように，副詞節です。時を表す副詞節内では未来のことを現在時制で代用するのに準じて，ここでも現在時制になります。

He says that you must go home at once. のsaysを過去形にする場合の答えが He said that you must go home at once. とmustがhad toになってなかったのですが、 それでも良いのでしょうか? またhad toでも良いのでしょうか? 似たような問題で I think that I should be more careful.が I thought that I should be more careful. となっていたのですが、shouldのままで良い のでしょうか？had toは間違ってますか?
