◆ask 人 to do は【依頼】を表し、 tell 人 to do は、【命令】を表します。 Don't ～. の否定命令が tell 人 not to do になるのはそのためです。 この場合、Would you ～ ? で丁寧な表現です。 ですから ask 人 to do を使います。 ask になるのは、Would you ～ ? を疑問文として扱っているからではなく（もしそうならあなたの言うとおり ask if になるでしょう）、発言内容が依頼だからです。 間接話法とは、相手の発言をそのまま利用しないので、ask や tell など（※伝達動詞といいます）を用いて、発言の雰囲気を伝える必要が出てくるのです。 事実、話法の書き換えはこの伝達動詞の正しい使い分けが大きなポイントなのです。 He asked me to show him my notebook. 「彼はノートを見せてよ、と言ってきた」 He told me to show him my notebook. 「彼は、ノートを見せろ、と言ってきた」 ◆第二のご質問、 「肯定文を書き換える場合、確か動詞はtellに変わるはずですがなぜsaidのままなのでしょうか。」について。 これは細かい分野になりますが、肯定文の書き換えにおいて、tell を使うのは、もとの文が say to 人 となっている場合だけです。つまり、 （１） ×tell that ～ は文法的に誤り →○say that ～ とするべし （２） ×say to 人 that ～ も文法的に誤り →○tell 人 that ～ とするべし というルールがあります。 例 He said, "I like chocolate." → He said that he liked chocolate. He said to me, "I like chocolate." → He told me that he liked chocolate." ※ただし実際にアメリカ人などに尋ねてみると、say to 人 that ～ でもいいんじゃないの、という人はいます。しかし今私は英国で研究中ですが、周りの研究者は「言って通じるけれど、文法的には明確にノーだ」と言ってます。学校で学ぶのは、どこへ出ても恥ずかしくない規範としての文法なので、このルールは覚えておくべきなのです。 ◆（３）については No. 1 さんのお答えが正しいです。解答に had が抜けています。 ◆話法の書き換えは細かいルールが多くて大変でしょう？ でも細かな英文法を実際に使う練習として、とても大事なんです。疑問点をよく洗い出して、がんばってくださいね。

(1)She said that she was going shopping with her mother. 解答「彼女は母親と買い物に行っていたといった。」 こんなシンプルな文でわからなくなりました。 「彼女は自分の母親と買い物に行っていると言った。」となると思っています。 まず、直接話法で考えると She said to me, "I'm going shopping with my mother (now.)" シチュエーションは、誰が電話で「今 何してんの？」みたいな会話で、「お母さんと買い物してるとこ」って彼女が電話口で話している感じです。 解答どおりの英語だと、She said that she had been going shopping with her mother.になりませんか？ 彼女がsaid した時より、買い物 していた進行形の事実はもっと過去だったということ。 時制の一致で主の動詞が過去形の時、内容の日本語訳って現在の様に訳すし、しゃべるのもそのようにすると思っています。 教えてください。混乱してきました。
