以下のとおりお答えします。 ＞添付ファイル文章 If I seem so happy to you, you could never say anything that would please me so much. の解釈に関する質問です。 「もし私があなたにそんなに幸せそうに見えているなら、あなたには、決して、 これほどまで私を喜ばせる言葉を いうことができないです。」 という解釈で合っているのか自信がないです 解説お願いします。 ⇒おっしゃるとおりだと思います。 婦人に「とても元気で幸せそうですよ」と言われたので、「今日はいつもより元気ですが、自分の病気のことはよく分かっています」と応える言葉に続いて、「こんなに嬉しい言葉をかけられたことはありません」といった気持ちと感謝を込めた表現を返すくだりですね。 ということで、お書きの、「もし私があなたにそんなに幸せそうに見えているなら、あなたには、決して、これほどまで私を喜ばせる言葉をいうことができないです。」は完璧なお訳だと思います。

would neverについて 学校の文法解説ではwould neverは過去の拒絶とか、仮定法過去の帰結節の否定などで習うと思うのですが、最近このwould never が現在の時制として、しかもifなしや仮定法とは考えにくい文で使われているのを耳にしました。 まず仮定法で使われている例をあげると I would never resent her, whatever she did. この文は仮定法だということがわかります しかし次の二つの例文になるとどういった用法でwould never が使われているのかわかりません 一応仮定法だと想定してif節を自分でつけてみました。（自分で考えつけたした文は（）で囲んであります） I would never do that.(even if you could) I would never lie to you.(even if i needed to) 今回質問したいのは僕のこの解釈であっているかどうか それと、例文のwhatever she did はwhatever she does,またeven if you couldのcouldはcanにしたほうがよいのかどうかも教えてほしいです。個人的にはwhateverのほうは過去形で良いと思うのですが、後者はI will never do that even if you can.のほうがいいような気がします。 でもその場合will never でなくwould never を使う意味は何なのか分からなくなってしまうんですよね。。 以上二点回答よろしくお願いします
