The farm boy from the Indiana cornfields who glides like a Hoosiers guard, and drives a pickup truck around town and a Winnebago across the country. 特に、"and a Winnebago across the country"がよくわかりません。

The farm boy from the Indiana cornfields who glides like a Hoosiers guard, and drives a pickup truck around town and a Winnebago across the country.

アメリカ在住の方から詳しい回答があるでしょうが、分かる範囲で・・ >and a Winnebago across the country これは drives a pickup truck and a Winnebago 、つまりピックアップとウイネバゴを運転するという意味です。

  • ran the platesの意味

Every now and then, a Los Angeles Department of Transportation employee may run across a stolen car while doing routine parking enforcement. It’s just not every day that the thief is still inside the car. But that’s just what happened Monday morning, Los Angeles police said, when an LADOT worker ran the plates on a Ford F-250 pickup truck in the Carthay neighborhood of Central L.A. About 10:40 a.m., the worker ran the plates on the truck in the 1200 block of South La Jolla Avenue; it came up as a stolen vehicle. That's when the employee also noticed a person was inside the truck's cab and called police.

More pillboxes at Boetleer were taken by the left flanking battalion of the 4th Brigade and the red line (first objective) was reached. A position near Korek was attacked, despite being beyond the first objective and under British artillery fire. The advance to the final objective, between Flandern I Stellung where it met the Ypres–Roulers railway, north to Kronprinz Farm on the Stroombeek began and a German battalion headquarters was captured in the Waterloo pillboxes. Calgary Grange and Kronprinz farm held out for a while longer but the final objective, after an advance of 1,000 yd (910 m) was reached and consolidated. In the XVIII Corps area, the 48th Division attacked with one brigade at 6:00 a.m. Vale house and Winzig on the right fell quickly, then machine-gun fire slowed the advance and some New Zealand troops strayed across the divisional boundary, causing confusion around Albatross Farm and Wellington Farm. Once Wellington and Winchester Farms had been captured, the advance resumed to the Stroombeek. As night fell, the division relieved the New Zealanders in the divisional area and took more ground. In the centre the 48th Division captured German posts west of the Stroombeek and was then was held up, by fire from the area of York Farm. Eventually the advance was halted 300 yd (270 m) short of Vacher Farm. A renewal of the attack with reinforcements was not able to overcome German machine-gun fire. On the left the attack was hampered by heavy machine-gun fire immediately. Tweed House was captured and contact made with troops further north from the 11th Division. Beck House was reached but further south the attackers were forced back. A resumption of the attack at 5:00 p.m. was cancelled due to rain and poor light. The 11th Division attacked at 6:00 a.m. with two brigades and ten tanks of 'D' battalion, 1st tank Brigade. On the right the advance took Malta House and reached an intermediate line where a small counter-attack was stopped. Fire from the church and the Brewery pillbox in Poelcappelle caused a delay but Gloster Farm was captured with the aid of two tanks and the red line (first objective) consolidated. Troops from the inner flanks of both brigades and several tanks entered Poelcappelle and then captured pillboxes beyond the east end.

Fire fighters and rescuers in Makati City can now reach high rise buildings as tall as 20-storey in responding to blaze or any emergency following the local government’s acquisition of new ladder fire truck – a first of its kind in the country. “With the ladder fire truck, Makati would be able to respond to high rise fires not only in the city, but also in other areas in the metropolis,” said Makati City Mayor Romulo “Kid” Pena who led the turnover to local Bureau of Fire Protection on Monday. The city’s financial district is a home to many high rise buildings, and it is a challenge for fire fighters to put out flames immediately. “The new ladder fire truck is a great help in responding to fire incidents since existing ladders cannot reach the tall buildings,” said Peña. As part of his aim to improve the disaster preparedness and response in the city, Pena also handed over different response units: 11 new ambulances, one super tanker fire truck that can carry 10,000 liters of water, two amphibious vehicles and a deployable command center to Makati City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office.

But it was also a coolness that Norman Mailer captured in Kennedy -- for whom Mr. Schlesinger became a kind of official hero-worshiper -- writing about the 1960 Democratic convention in Los Angeles. Mr. Mailer described how Kennedy’s convertible, then his suntan and his teeth, emerged before a camera-filled crowd in Pershing Square, “the prince and the beggars of glamour staring at one another across a city street.”
