tens of ・・・とhighlight
From the Himalayan region of Ladakh to the deck of an aircraft carrier, 《tens of thousands》 in India joined Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 21 to celebrate the fourth International Day of Yoga, with a few wearing masks to 《highlight》 poor air quality. この英文の意味は、 『ヒマラヤのラダック地方から空母のデッキまで、数万の人が６月２１日に４回目の 「国際ヨガの日」を祝う為にインドのナレンドラ・モディ首相と共にした。 質の悪い空気が目立つ為、多少、マスクを着用しながら。』 大体、こういう事だと思うのですが、 1. tens of thousands of people となっていない事 2. highlightが、他動詞の「・・・を目立たせる。」という意味で 「・・・が目立つ。」として良いのか。 1・2の二つの事が分かりません。教えて下さい。

＃１です。補足です。 省略の点で、いろんな言葉の中で、日本語は省略が多い方ですから、外国語に訳するとき、苦労することがあります。 ところが日本語や朝鮮語、中国語では、名詞を分類する「助数詞」があって、それは省略できないので、物を数える時は、名詞は省略しても助数詞は残ります。 ですから「客は三十人来た」は、「客」は名詞ですから省略しても「三十人来た」はいいが「＊三十来た」とは言えません。 しかし英語では、thirty came と言えます。こう言う違いで、ご質問があったのでは、と思い、付け加えます。

＃１です。補足です。 ＞＞『言葉を省いても想像して分かる場合は、言葉を省く場合がある。』 という内容のものをネットで調べようとしてもそのような内容の サイトをうまく検索出来ないのですが、英文法の本か何かに書かれて いるのでしょうか? ちょっと調べて見ましたが、日本語ではありませんでしたが、下記などが参考になるかもしれません。 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ellipsis 常識で復元できないものは省略しないわけですから。文法の問題ではないと考えられているのでしょう。

1. thousandsだけで数千もの人々と言う意味があります。millionsも一緒。 tens of thousandsで何万もの人々。 2. highlightで、目立たせる、際立たせるですが、 with a few wearing masks to 《highlight》 poor air quality. を日本文として自然に訳すと、 「何人かはマスクをしており空気の悪さを印象付けていた。」

１。 tens of thousands of people となっていない事 文の内容で、「祝う」という行為ができるもの、は人間だと分かります。したがって people という言葉がなくても人ということがわかるからです。 2. highlightが、他動詞の「・・・を目立たせる。」という意味で「・・・が目立つ。」として良いのか。 いいと思います、「数人は、空気が汚れていることを強調するため、マスクをつけていた」ということでしょう。 ここでも with a few となっていて with a few people となっていません。

どうもこんにちは。今回もどうかよろしくお願いします。 このような文章に出会ったのですがどう解釈してよいのやら迷っています。 "Across the nation Sunday, tens of thousands of homosexuals linked arms and took to city streets to march has part of the gay and lesbian community's annual celebration." 日曜日に全国的レベルで、数万人に及ぶホモセクシャルの人たちが腕を組み、街頭行進を行なったが、これはゲイおよびレスビアンの人たちの恒例の年間行事の祭りの一つである ※ " "は引用のしるしです。また和訳はテキストに掲載されているものをそのまま使っています。 疑問点は、has の主語がどれかということです。一番の候補はやはり tens of... だと思います（tens.. と複数になっていますが、おそらく数万という数字を一かたまりに考えれば単数形でも問題はありません）。でもそうなると linked arms and took to...が宙ぶらりんの状態になってしまいます。また仮に tens of... が linked、took、hasの主語であると仮定しても has だけいきなり現在形になるのはどうなのかな・・と思ってしまいます。 はじめは O V Sになっているのでは？とも考えました。しかしそう考えると今度は linked arms and took...が homosexuals に関係代名詞としてかからなくてはいけません。ところが主格の関係代名詞は省略できません。なのでおそらくこの仮説は間違いだと思います。 長い質問で申し訳ありませんが、皆さんのお力を借りたいと思います。ご返答はお時間のある時で結構です。よろしくお願いします。

Some Bhutanese high school students go to universities in India after finishing school. It is not difficult for them to study in India because many Indian university classes are taught in English. Bhutanese students also go to universities in Bhutan. There are many Indian and other foreign people teaching there.
