英文解釈

until 100 years ago men believed that the earth stood still; that the sun,the moon,and the stars went around it. It's easy to understand why this was so. After all that's the way it looked. And nobody could feel the earth moving. If the earth moved, why didn't objects fly off it, including the water in the oceans? 英文解釈の質問です。この英文の後に、Explain underlined part in Japanese とあり［下線部はwhy this was soに引かれています］答えは、地球がじっとしていて動いていないと人々が信じていた理由、とありました。つまり下線部の前を答えにしているのですが、自分は下線部の後を答えにしていました。なぜ答えが下線部の前になるのか、もしお分かりなら教えていただけると嬉しいです。よろしくお願いします。

質問者はｗｈｙが何かを説明しており 出題者はｓｏ　が何を指すかを尋ねたかった様に見えます Explain underlined part. に忠実に従うなら、 私は why を説明した質問者の回答が正しいと思いますし so を説明した回答は誤りだと思います。

質問者は「Explain the underlined part in Japanese 」の意味を理解していないみたいです。「下線部を日本語に訳しなさい」ならお分かりになろうかと思います。 「soが具体的に何を示しているか分るように訳しなさい」ということが「下線部を日本語で説明しなさい」ということです。 ★「until 100 years ago」ですが数字あってますか。 ★英語で問題文が書かれている入試問題はそれを正しく理解できないと解答できないので そちらの方の訓練もすることです。

And ～というのは why ～に対する答えであって、そのものではありません。 あと、this was so という表現に関する誤解があると思います。 あくまでも be 動詞の代わりでしかない、せいぜい look くらいならいいけど、 believed のような内容を表わすのか。 He did so などという場合、did so というのは前に表現された動作の代わりでしょうが、 this was so というのは、主語まで含めた、文（節）全体の内容を「そう」で表わしています。 だから、その内容が believed という動作であっても問題はありません。

１。　下線の部分は「なぜこれがそうだったか（を説明するのは容易だ」」ですね。 　その前は「100年前までは、地球は動かず、太陽、月、星などがその周りを回っていると信じていた」です。 　その後は「要するにそう見えたわけである。地球の動きが感じられないし。もし地球が動くなら、海の水を含めて、なぜ物が（地球から）落ちないのか。」です。 ２。ご質問は　なぜ答えが下線部の前になるのか、です。 　答えは簡単です。　why this was so　の代名詞 this は、それまで述べられて、既知になっている情報しか代名詞化できませんから、前になる訳です。

日本語でもそうですが、「このこと、そのこと」とあれば、たいてい直前にあります。 国語の読解でもそのように教えます。 ただ、「これから言うこと」の可能性もあり、これだけでは理由にはならず、結局、内容次第です。 「100年前までは人間は地球が静止していて、太陽・月や星が地球の周りをまわっていると信じていた。」 「なぜこのことがそうであったか（このことがそうであった理由）を理解することはやさしい」 「結局のところ、そうとしか見えなかったから」この部分は why ～に対する答えであり、why ～そのものではありません。 答えであり、なぜなのか、と＝の関係にはあります。 ただ、「このことがそうであった理由」の内容（指すもの）そのものではありません。 結局、this was so とは何のことか、というと、「地球が静止し、太陽などがその周りをまわっていると信じていた」ことです。
