外国からの公的なお客様をお迎えするに当たり、日本側を代表して挨拶することになりました。通訳もいるので日本語でスピーチしますが、冒頭のみ英語でスピーチしたいと思います。以下の案でおかしくないですか？ It is our greatest honor that we can welcome you. Thank you so much for your visit. From now , please allow me to speak in Japanese, because I am afraid that we cannot have a good communication because of my poor English.

It is our greatest honor to welcome you. Thank you so much for your visit here. To think of these two English sentences, I spent more than an hour. I did not want to stand in front of you with sleeping eyes. So let me speak in Japanese through this wonderful intepreter. ★that we can welcome youのように節を使うと、よく言えばより客観的、悪く言えば突き放した形となります。当然、相手によりそうような感じがこもる不定詞にします。 ★たどたどしい英語でも、相手の言語である英語で挨拶する方がgood communicationではないだろうかーーという考えもありますよね。そう思われたら、あなたの日本語のスピーチとその通訳はいかがなものかと思われてしまいます。そう思われる余地のない運びがいいと思います。たとえばの例を書きましたのでご参照ください。 「この２つの英文を考えるのに、1時間以上使いました。みなさんの前に眠い目をして立ちたくありませんでした。ですからすばらしい通訳者を通して日本語で話をさせてください。」 以上でいかがでしょうか？

程よいユーモアも取り入れてて、とても良い案だと思います。 あえて少しアドバイスするのなら最初の文は"We are greatly honored to have you with us today" などの表現のほうが口語的に合うかと思います。あとThank you so much～を冒頭に持ってきたほうが自然になるかと思います。 日本代表としておもてなし頑張ってください！

どちらの意味が正しいのですか？ At the time we speak of the boy was poor.（ちなみにtimeのあとにカンマはありません。 という文の意味をこのサイトで質問しました。） すると、英語をなんなく話せる日本人の回答者の方は At the time,we speak of the boy (who)was poor.のようにwhoを補い「私たちがその少年について話している時、その少年は貧しかった」のように理解しているようです。 これを疑問に思い、バイリンガルの友達数人の文の意味を聞いてみるとみんな口を揃えて 「私たちが話している時代には、その少年は貧しかった」と言っていました。 つまり、｛At the time (we speak of)｝the boy was poor.ということです。 さらに、「私たちがその少年について話している時、その少年は貧しかった」と「私たちが話している時代には、その少年は貧しかった」では全く文意が違う。上のような誤訳をしているのに英語をなんなく話せるというのはおかしい。と言っていました。 どちらの意味が正しいのでしょうか？ 教えてください。

Students study English in my country. However, most students can't speak English. They have to study English at junior high school. So they learn English for three years. Why many people can't speak English? いつもお世話になり、ありがとうございます。<(_ _)> 添削をお願いします。 英語を話すときは、表情やイントネーションによって、同じ言葉でも伝わり方が違ってきますね。 When we speak English, our facial expression and intonation gives a quite different meaning even to the same words. まだまだ、そこまで気を配って話せるレベルではありませんが、それを目標に頑張ります。 I'm a poor English speaker and have a lot of things to do before caring about that, but I will keep learning and would like to get around to that also.
