Modern communications technology is amazing. Besides ordinary mail and the traditional telephone, we can keep in touch with friends and relatives wherever we (and they) are, using cell-phones, e-mail, or Internet sites. Unfortunately, modern technology offers new opportunities to criminals too. Most of the tricks they use take advantage of the fact that people are naturally greedy. Most people are familiar with at least some traditional 'scams' - tricks used to get money from innocent people. One common one is a letter telling you that you have won a large amount of money in a lottery, or saying that you have been left money by a distant relative (whose existence you weren't even aware of). To get the money, all you have to do is send off a moderate sum, to cover the cost of transferring the much larger sum into your bank account. Often you are then asked to send a further sum, to deal with 'unforeseen problems'. Of course, the large sum never appears in your account. Another scam that has been around for many years is when a stranger rings you completely unexpectedly and tries to sell you shares in companies you've probably never heard of. This may sound unlikely to succeed, but a surprising number of people are taken in by It, especially if the stranger sounds smooth and professional. If he already has some of your personal details, he may claim that your bank or financial adviser gave him the information and asked him to contact you.

Sometimes this decision is straightforward. A proposal of a marriage, and an acceptance or refusal. But sometimes life is less well defined than that and the decision is made by the soul, it is made in the depths unconsciously. By you or by him. You may feel you have had enough of this particular man, or karma for one life for example and your spirit may withdraw because of pain when you could have struggled on perhaps and changed the ending to the story. Or you may unconsciously behave in such a way that he is the one to end the relationship against your will. Life is complicated, and the stars only really sketch this life, you add your own complications to become woven into the destiny This can be said of all relationships of course, not just your own. But it is right to state it. Some people hear the word soul mate and they assume that nothing can ever go wrong. That is not so. What I promise you is a future, it is up to you and him to make it happy or sad, short or lasting.

Let's take a brief tour of a raw meat-eating region. Welcome to the polar region of Canada's Melville Peninsula. The native peoples used to be called Eskimos. This was a derogatory term given them by native peoples from the south, meaning raw meat eaters. They are the meat of caribou, seals, and walruses raw. "Meat" includes the innards, which are considered the most exquisite parts of the animals. You might remember seeing documentary films of lions going straight for the innards of their victims. Of course, in that frozen part of the world, fruits, vegetables, and grains are unobtainable. The native peoples do not suffer from scurvy, and in fact have glossy faces, thanks to their diet of raw meat. A japanese cultural anthropologist who lived among these northern people learned that because of the bland flavor of raw meat, it is possible to eat a lot of it at each meal as a staple food, in the same way Japanese eat rice. Some parts of the innards are bitter while other parts are sour, so if you chew on them as you eat the raw meat, the meat tastes "seasoned" and you never get tired of it. Horsemeat is called cherry meat or sakura-niku in Japan. It may mean that the color of the meat is as beautiful as that of cherry blossom. But it may also mean that horsemeat is a sort of fake meat, sold by con men to unsuspecting passers-by under an exotic-sounding name. Take your choise as to which is the truth. There are those who love horsemeat for its deliciously light flavor. There are few restaurants that serve authentic tartar steak made from horsemeat. Most people do not realize that horsemeat is "the real thing", and that there is no reason to discriminate against it. Where food is concerned, when all is said and done, likes and dislikes are just a matter of taste.

Taxation differs from country to country. For example, in the United States and Japan, a tax on cigarettes and alcohol is an important way for the government to get money. This is sometimes called a "sin tax." In other words, by doing something bad, you do something good: You give money to the government. Yet in Russia, there is almost no tax on tobacco or alcohol. It is often said that taxes will change in the 21st century. There may be new taxes on bank savings and financial transactions. Trash is likely to be taxed in the future. When you drive your car into a large city, you might have to pay a tax for that. One thing is certain: There will be new taxes for the rich and poor in countries that have fewer and fewer young people to support society. If you like to save money, you might be penalized for this in the future. This would encourage people not to hold money, but spend it. This might be important in societies such as Japan, where people traditionally save large amounts of money. A strong economy is one in which money changes hands often. Money "grows" in this way. When you go overseas, you usually exchange yen for another currency, such as dollars or the euro. Not only are tourists a good target for a tax(because it is thought that they have money to spend), but it would help to stop speculators. Speculators are people with large amounts of money who buy one currency, hold it, and then sell it to make money. Imagine that somebody exchanges \10,000,000 at 92 yen per dollar. If he changes this money back to yen at just 93 yen to a dollar, then he has made about \100,000. Any government would love to get some of this profit.

Ultimately, your response to what we've outlined in this book might be to suggest a theory of your own, based on your own thinking and experience - as some of the practitioners we've interviewed do. But be careful in supported by empirical evidence. The next stage is to work out how you can put your own informed opinions to the test and turn them into a sound theory. Finally, remember that this book is by no means the last word on anything. We hope to have last word on anything. We hope to have whetted your appetite to look at visual communication in more detail, and pointed you in the direction of alternative sources that will extend your knowledge even further.

Every day, millions of stock trades are made in the United States. Who buys and sells stock? Mort often it is people with money to invest, people with extra income that they don't need. A very small tax every time Americans bought some stock shares of a company could bring in a lot of money for the government. Finally, you might already be taxed for throwing away trash. When you buy your trash bags, the tax is added to the cost of the bags. For example, you might pay \150 for ten bags today. Next year, you might have to pay \550...150 for bags, and 400 yen in a "garbage tax", or \40 per bag. This will serve two purposes: The government will get money for this service, and people will most likely throw away less trash. Unfortunately, it also means that people will throw trash away in places like wooded areas. Strangely, it may hurt our environment more than help it. There are sure to be new types of taxes soon. Sadly, it will not be just to raise money for governments, but to force people to live more reasonable, ecological lives. The only way to get people to cooperate might be to hit them hard in a place that hurts: Their pocketbooks and wallets.

But it doesn't automatically mean they will merge. In constructing the synastry we also assume there is some existing and practical realistic link between you. That you know the person. That they area close friend or partner. It is always very difficult to say for certain if two people will marry from examining their charts. It is only really the strong possibility of marriage that we can determine. Because even if every marriage aspect known to astrology is visible, and it appears in cross aspects between the charts linking them, there are millions of people in the world who's charts may also have similar aspects and links to yours, should you happen to meet up. So its never possible to say for certain, but there are enough aspects between your two chart for the marriage to be a good possibility The more involved your lives are in a practical way the stronger the possibility of course..

It may seem odd to say this , but whatever your view of the discussion in this chapter, it should ve clear that design is not simp;y a visual medium; it is a social and, as we have identified, a political one. It just happens to be most apparent visually in the messages sent to us by commerce, media and government, and the subtler but equally important messages we send each other in our everyday practices. Like an iceberg, 90 per cent of visual communication is hidden beneath the surface. And, just like an iceberg, it is the invisible 90 per cent that provides the raw power of visual communication. So, there we end this overview of some of the key ideas that are involved in the study and under standing of visual communication and its relationship with design. Undoubtedly, like some of the practitioners interviewed for the book, you will disagree with some of it. Hopefully some of it will have challenged your own positon on this subject.
