not since.... の文法について
not sinceが使われた文の文法についてなんですが、 Probably not since the days of the Pharaohs or the more ludicrous Roman Emperors has a head of state travelled in such pomp and expensive grandeur as the President of the United States of America. という表現では、後半の"head of state"が主語の肯定文にみえるのですが、次の例 No one has lived there for over 2,000 years - not since the summer of the year A.D. 79, to be exact. では、文の構造が逆になっており、かつ、not sinceの内容だけでなく、対になった節でNo oneが使われた否定文のような内容になっています。(前者の例から推測すると、People has lived there～という肯定文とペアになるような気がしてしまうのですが) どういうルールがあるのでしょうか。 よろしくお願いします。

初めの文においては、確かに a head of state が主語だと思います。 読みにくい文になるかもしれませんが、書き直してみると Probably a head of state has not travelled in such pomp and expensive grandeur as the President of the United States of America since the days of the Pharaohs or the more ludicrous Roman Emperors. となり、a head of state を主語とみて問題ないと思います。 ２番目の文の not since は、前半の No one has lived there という部分を改めて述べる方策として、まさかすべてを繰り返すわけにいかないので、not の１語で表したものだと思います。 つまり、not = Anyone had not lived there ということを not だけで代表させたものだと思います。

ありがとうございます。not sinceで括られた "not since the days of the Pharaohs or the more ludicrous Roman Emperors " 部分が否定的な副詞の役割をしているので、これが前に出てきたということでしょうか？ しかし、sinceにnotが付いた副詞的は用法はほかにあるのでしょうか？(辞書で調べても見つかりませんでした。) bakanskyさんからいただいた英文のように、主語「a head of state」が動詞「has not travelled」で否定され、副詞部分は純粋なsinceで括られており、副詞部分自体が否定語になっているわけではありません。

In the end, these men were executed with no real proof that they had committed a crime. The United States has changed since then. The State of Massachusetts has not admitted that there was a mistake, but I heard that they are thinking of naming the anniversary of their deaths “Vanzetti and Sacco Memorial Day.” Judging from this, I think even they believe that the two men should not have been executed. I wonder if we will ever know the truth.

Since the director unexpectedly resigned,〇〇 has been apointed as the acting head of human resources. 上記の英文についてですが、〇〇 was appointedではなく、has been appointedになるのは 〇〇が任命されたのは部長が辞めたのと同時点では無く、部長が辞めた後から現在のいずれかの時点であるためという考え方であっていますか？ もし考え方が間違っているのであれば、過去形ではなく完了形になる理由を教えて頂きたいです。 よろしくお願い致します。

ありがとうございます。 ＞not の１語で表したものだと思います。 そうしますと、1番目の文章の"not since"も、"not"の部分は"has NOT travelled"から由来のnotで、sinceは"SINCE the days of ～"から由来のものということでしょうか？ '肯定的な副詞節'と'動詞の否定'のセットから、一般的な「否定的な副詞の倒置」というものが起きることがあるんですか？(それとも、この文章独特のものでしょうか。なにかほかに例がありましたら是非よろしくお願いします。)
