「生存競争の原理とは適者生存である事を科学は教えてくれる。しかしながら二度の大戦を経てきた我々の眼に映るのは、（適者ではなく）蛮勇で、高潔で、自滅せざるを得ない者を指すようだ。 (A)(4) survive 普遍的事実を示す場合は現在形を用いる。 (B)(2) have lived 時間的継続を表す場合には現在完了形を用いる。

(A) (4) survive いわゆる自然淘汰を説明した部分で，一般真理を述べている （最適の者が生き残る）ので，現在形。 the ＋形容詞（最上級）で複数的なもので survive で可。 (B) (2) have lived 「２つの世界大戦を生き抜いてきた」 もう終わった２つの世界大戦のことなので， 現在進行形や未来形，should もおかしい。 現在完了によって，「～してきた」という完了を表す。
