訳してもらえますか？

学校で「ＳＡＴ」という英語で書かれた数学や算数の問題を解くというのを週一回やってるのですが、英語の先生でさえわからない問題があったのでちょっとやくしていたたけますかぁ？（＾ω＾；） A solid cube of side of 6 is first painted pink and then cut into smaller cubes of side 2. How many of the smaller cubes have paint an exactly 2 side? 答えは12 なんですが・・・

まず、英語を修正してから。 A solid cube of side 6 is first painted pink and then cut into smaller cubes of side 2. How many of the smaller cubes have paint on exactly 2 sides? 一辺の長さが６の立方体がまずピンクに塗られ、次にその立方体が一辺の長さ２の小さな立方体に切り分けられるものとする。小さい立方体のうち、ちょうど２面にペイントが付いている立方体はいくつあるか？ ルービックキューブのようなものを想像すればお分かりになるかと思います。
