こんにちは。 had はここでは「食べた」でしょうね。 持って行く、だったら、took のような気もしますが、refreshmentはだいたい出されるもので、どこかへ持っていく、という感じではないと思います。 アメリカだと、ミーティングなり何かの後に、refreshment があるので～というと、飲み物（コーヒーなど）やクラッカーにチーズ、果物が出される、という、本当に軽いものです。 後半の、nothing very much は、nothing much の、ほんの少し、とか、たいしたものではないという意味に、very がついた、と解釈していいと思います。

次の二つの英文は何とか意味は取れるのですが、文法解釈は正直できてません。お願いします。 (1)But while I know that the intentions of these ladies were nothing but good, when this kind of thing happens it makes me feel uncomfortable. nothing but を only で訳すと意味が通じなくなるような気がしました。 (2)And as women, they felt this even more so. even more がうまく訳せません。また、this と soは同じことを指すのではないのですか？？

高校受験を目の前に控えているけれど、気になってしかたがないので質問させて頂きます。 辞書にはmany much は疑問、否定文のみ使用可能で、 so such as veryなどを併用する場合はmany muchも肯定文で使えると載っていました。 しかし、いざ英文を読んでみると We had much rain yesterday. や He has many friends. のような文を目にします。 なぜこれは We had so much rain yesterday. や He has a lot of friends. のようにしなくても大丈夫なのでしょうか？ よろしくお願いします。

海外の方との交流があり御礼で英文のメールが届きました。その中で、 We thank you very much for your self-sacrifice to us. というくだりがありましたが、直訳でself-sacraficeは「自己犠牲」になると思うのですが、接待した私たちは犠牲だとは思っていませんし、こういう場合は「よくしてくれたこと」と取ってよいのでしょうか。 それと以下の文章で後半がよくわかりません。 I wanna see you very much.
