find A beautiful といえば「A が美しいと思う」で終わりです、 ところが「昨日近所の薬屋で腰痛の大きめのサロンパスかなにかの貼り薬を買おうとしたがお金の入った財布をうちに忘れて来たと言ってた三丁目のあの、この間還暦とかで赤いチャンチャンコ着ていたおばあちゃん」を A に代入すると、「美しい」という代名詞から、主動詞 find が離れて遠くなってしまいます。 こういう時、入れ替えれば楽です。

添付ファイル文章の How many of us would look at a young child with a propensity for fighting and poor grades and predict that he would become a master teacher and philosopher? の文法についてです。 How many of usは名詞化していると思うのですが、どういった文法のルールに従っているのか分からないです。 How は副詞、many は代名詞で、 間接疑問文みたいに、 (What,which,who. S V,,,,) how もS V の頭にきているという理解であっているのか分からないです。 それとも、how many ,how muchは 普通のhow 単体 (How do you feel now?のような) とは異なって、 これでセットで, 名詞化するものという理解の仕方をした方が良いのか分からないです。 解説お願いします。

高校受験を目の前に控えているけれど、気になってしかたがないので質問させて頂きます。 辞書にはmany much は疑問、否定文のみ使用可能で、 so such as veryなどを併用する場合はmany muchも肯定文で使えると載っていました。 しかし、いざ英文を読んでみると We had much rain yesterday. や He has many friends. のような文を目にします。 なぜこれは We had so much rain yesterday. や He has a lot of friends. のようにしなくても大丈夫なのでしょうか？ よろしくお願いします。

「～に気づく」は上の2つの言い方ができると思いますが、その違いがよく解りません。以下は「TOEIC FRIENDS」という雑誌の99年11月号の問題で、文法的に誤っている語をA～Dから選ぶというものです。 141. The manager found one of [the(A)] chairs [in(B)] the restaurant [was(C)] broken and called the supply division [to replace it(D)]. 答えは(C)でこれを削除するのですが、この問題の解説の部分がよく解らないのです。以下が解説の部分です。 「動詞findは、直後に節を従える場合を除き[find+目+形]のかたちを採る。(中略)なおここではone of以降brokenまでの部分をthat節と見なすことはできない。その理由は、(1)[find+that節]は主語がthat以下の内容を自ら発見したのではないことを示唆する(つまり、報告や調査結果などから判断した、というニュアンスを持つ)限定的な表現であり、ここでは文意からその可能性が低いことと、(2)このように目的語にthat節を採ることで特別な意味が生じる用法では節の開始を示すthatを省略できないためである。」 わからないのはこの解説の(1)の部分で、辞書などで例文をさらったのですが、辞書ではそのような違いを意識して例文をまとめてあるようには見えないので、どうもこの2つの違いが具体的に見えてきません。どなたかわかりやすい例文で解説してもらえないでしょうか。ちなみに私のTOEIC SCOREは740です。このレベルでも解るぐらいの解説でお願いします。

(Nicky Hayes, Psychologyより) 上記の英文中の"social meaning"の訳を高校生でも分かるように教えていただけますか？（実は、以前、別のサイトでもうかがったのですが、残念ながら自分の理解力のなさで、諦めました。）ある人に聞いたら、「実質的意味合い」だとおっしゃっていました。前後関係で、この文の言いたいこと（細かいことは間違っていたけれど、本質的なところはあっていた）は分かるのですが、social meaning→「実質的意味合い」というふうになるのが、高校生にどう説明していいか分かりません。それとも別のいい訳がありますか。
