こんにちは。 似たような質問と回答があったので載せてみました。回答番号６の方の回答がわかりやすいのではないかと。 このかたの二つ目と三つ目のセクション（「○」で始まる部分）を読むと良いと思います。 inは集団を表す単数形、ofは数字を表す語句や複数形。 私も良い事を学びました。目からウロコでした！

ＮＨＫ英語講座のテキストに載っていた会話文です。 意味は 「僕のニューヨークの第一印象は、世界で最も大きい都市の１つだということです。」 英訳には “Ｍｙ ｆｉｒｓｔｉｍｐｒｅｓｓｉｏｎｓ ｏｆ Ｎｅｗ Ｙｏｒｋ Ｃｉｔｙ ｉｓ ｔｈａｔ ｉｔ ｉｓ ｔｈｅ ｏｎｅ ｏｆ ｔｈｅ ｂｉｇｇｅｓｔ ｃｉｔｉｅｓ ｉｎ ｔｈｅ ｗｏｒｌｄ.” と書いてあります。 英訳の中の『that it is』が何故入るのか分かりません。（文法力なしなので） もし、自分が会話する場合、その部分を抜かして言ってしまいそうです！ “～New York cities is the one of the biggest～ ”と言うと思うのです。 それではダメなのですか。意味が通じないとか、ニュアンスが違うとか、もしくは文法的に間違っているのでしょうか。 あなたもその部分を抜かさずに言いますか。 こんな細かいこと（？）にこだわっていると喋れなくなりそうですが、とても気になります。 会話が通じればOKと思っており、難しい文法説明は英語力がないのでなるべく簡単に教えて下さい。

私は「one」を使いこなせないのですが、以下の私自作の英文の文法は間違っているでしょうか？ Russian language is one of the most difficult one for Japanese people to learn of all the languages in the world. oneでlanguageをあらわしたつもりです。 「ロシア語は日本人が学ぶには世界の言語の中でも最も難しい言語の内の一つだ。」がもとです。 お手数ですがぜひ添削よろしくお願いします。 PS そういえば最上級で「～のうち」をあらわすのにinなのかofなのかときどき迷います。 John is the tallest of(in??) all his classmates. Chicago,illinois,is often called the Windy City （ ）great gusts of wind blowing across Lake Michigan . の（ ）に入る語句はbecause of が答えなのですが、なぜ、becauseではいけないのでしょか？ 自力では、わからなかったので、わかる方がいましたら、教えて下さい。お願いします。
