Eli Lilly today announced that it has resolved a multi-state investigation involving 32 states and the District of Columbia (DC) related to the sales, marketing and promotion of its antipsychotic medication Zyprexa. という文があったのですが、ここでのresolveとinvestigationの意味がよくわかりません。「調査を解決（終了？）した」だと変ですし、この後の文を読んでも、Zyprexaという薬についての裁判の和解条件が書いてあるだけで、「調査」については触れられていません。この2つは法律用語で「係争事項について和解した」などの意味なのでしょうか？ 教えていただければ幸いです。

#1の回答は間違えてたみたいですね。 おっしゃるように、「調査(の問題）を解決した」ということのようです。 “multi-state investigation”というのは、Zyprexaの販売方法等についてEli Lilly社の営業方法について32の州が合同で調査を行っていたことを指しているらしいです。 調査の結果次第によっては民事・刑事の訴訟や課徴金・罰金等の賦課にエスカレートしていく可能性があったのだと思います。 そういうことになる前に各州（の司法長官？）と話し合いをして、お金を払って調査を打ち切ってもらうことに合意したことを“resolve the investigation”「調査問題の解決」と表現しているようです。

「調査を（行うことを）決定した」でしょう。 resolveは「決定する」「（取締役会等で）決議する」ということで、特に法律用語ということでもないと思います。

早速の回答ありがとうございます。 ただこの後に、 While there is no finding that Lilly has violated any provision of the state laws under which the investigations were conducted とあって、the investigations は既に実行されたようなのですが・・・。他にinvestigationという言葉も出てきていないので、これは冒頭のa multi-state investigation だと思うのですが、それでこんがらがってしまっています。
