英語やり直し組です The United States believes the current operation must be as a short and as precisely targeted as possible (1)as preciselyについて 違うかもしれませんがこの文は 「アメリカは最新の戦略は出来るだけ短くて正確に狙われた戦略にならなければならいと信じている」 のように見えました。 そこで気になったのですが、as preciselyはas a preciseでは駄目なのでしょうか？ as a short と同じ役割？をandで繋いでいるので大丈夫だと思うのですが自信がありません。。。 また可能な場合、as preciselyとas a preciseの違いは何なのでしょうか？ お願いします。

多少補足します。 as as possibleはhelp as many people as possibleのようにas asのなかが名詞になる場合もあります。 そしてas + 形容詞＋a + 名詞の語順が一般的です（確立していませんが。） the current operation must be as a short （operation)as possible and ですと書き言葉として考えたときにも語順的にどうかなというのはありますしoperationと実際にいっていないようですから、shortだけ言おうとしてa shortと言ってしまった、 しかしあるいはa short operationと言おうとしたかもしれません。ただ語順以外にも違和感を感じます。話者もここで一度立ち止まってandで仕切りなおしています。 the current operation must be as precisely targeted (operation)as possible ですが、a precisely targeted operationのようにaがこちらには入らなくなってしまい変ですね。 the current operation must be as a short （operation)as possible and the current operation must be as precisely targeted (to the enemy camp)as possible the current operation must be as short as possible and the current operation must be as precisely targeted (to the enemy camp)as possible のどちらかを言おうとしていると思いますが文法的に後者だと思います。 be targeted to～で～のみに狙いを定めている 作戦は期間が短ければ短いほどよく、目標が敵の陣地、兵器などに限定されていれば限定されているほどよいというわけですね。

the current operation must be as a short （operation） and the current operation must be as precisely targeted (to the enemy camp)as possible というようにandのところで切れると考えられます。会話文なのでそうなったかもしれません。a shortといってしまったのでandで区切ったかもしれません。 そう考えないとご質問のようにちょっと変ですね。 というか今別の回答が出たようですのでそちらでよろしいと思います。
質問への回答既に出ていますので、気になる点をひとつ。a shortのaは不要というか誤植だと思います。as short as possibleとas precisely targeted as possible という意味だと思います。参考までに

ありがとうございます。 the current operation must be as a short （operation) as possible the current operation must be as precisely targeted (operation)as possible という意味なのではないのでしょうか？ 私も最初as short as possibleと考えたのですがaがあるから上のような文なんだと考えたのですが…

>…must be as a precise operation targeted as possible 本来precisely targeted のようにtargetedを修飾しようというものなのでa precise operation targetedですと修飾関係が変わってしまいますので正確なoperationとなってしまいます。 precisely正確に targeted目標が定められているというわけです。 targetは targeted marketingターゲットマーケティング 標的市場を決めてその市場に直接広告、プロモーション活動をすること と同じように targeted （operation） 標的となる現場、状況を決めてそれにダイレクトに軍事活動をすること と考えられます。

ありがとうございます。 少し省略しますが …must be as a precise operation targeted as possible のような考え方は駄目なのでしょうか？ preciseが何を修飾しているかの違いはありますが意味としては大丈夫のように見えるのですが…
