theは特定のものをさす時によくつかいます。この場合ではたぶんbig citiesは特定の場所（都市）の集まりを表していますが、countrysideはいろいろな場所をまとめて使っているからではないでしょうか. でもcountrysideにtheがつかない場合はないと思いますので田舎といったらtheをつけると覚えてしまったほうが早いかもしれません。

下記文についての質問です。 We were at a loss which way should go. which way should goのところが良くわかりません。 which way should goは、which wayを主語、should goを述語動詞と捉え、どの方法が行われるべきかと訳し良いのでしょうか？ 全体では、私たちはどの道に進むべきか途方にくれていたと訳せるのでしょうか？ 以上、宜しくお願い致します。

In large cities the majority of people live in condominiums and apartments. こんな風に本に書いてあったのですが、and のところを or でもいいのでしょうか？もし or ならどんな意味の差異が生じるのでしょうか？
