この fish は動詞です。 go fishing の場合は自動詞で「つりをする」ですが， ここの fish は他動詞です。 目的語として「魚」を置くこともあり得ますが， 多いのは「川・海」など「魚を捕る場所」を目的語にします。 たとえば，I fished the river yesterday. で 「私は昨日，その川で魚を捕った（つりをした）」となります。 この文でも，waters「海域」を目的語にとり fish new waters で「新しい海域で魚を捕る」 →「新しい海域にいる魚を捕る」としています。 to fish ～は不定詞です。 訳では副詞的に「～するために」としていますが， technologies にかけて形容詞的に訳してもいいでしょう。

Ｈｅ fished the river all day. 彼は終日その川で釣りをした。 という風に使います。 fish（他Ｖ)に魚をとるという意味もありますから、その訳でも構わないと思います。

この fish は動詞です（つまり、「to fish」は to 不定詞です）。 動詞としての fish の意味をご存知でなければ、辞書で調べてみてください。
補足
すみません。「新しい海域にいる魚をとるために～」の意味で言ったつもりでした。魚をとる＝fish、は知っております。すみません・・・。

携帯から失礼します。①they can not so much as write their own name.(彼らは自分の名前さえ書けない) so much asは副詞句だと思いますが、なぜ副詞句になりうるのでしょうか？asが接続詞か前置詞だとするとcanとwriteの間にasを含むがきているのは文法的にどうなっているんでしょうか？ ②as many as 3000 people came to the concert. これはas many asは形容詞句になっていると思いますか゛、asは接続詞か前置詞なのになぜ形容詞句になりうるのでしょうか？ 2つの文について説明をお願いします。

ある英文の中に Factory ships that can hold 1,000 tons of fish store and process the catches. という文がありました。 僕は Factry ships {that(関代・主) can hold ～ cathers} と考えたのですが 僕が訳した限り 「1000トンの魚を抱え、捕った魚を加工できる工船。」 という訳になって、文中にこういう形の訳が出てくるのに違和感を感じました。 例えば I have factory ships that～cathes. や Factory ships that can ～ cathes are very useful という文なら良く見るのですが今回は違います。 どのように訳せばいいのでしょうか？お願いします 参考の為に、この文が出てくるパラグラフを載せておきます。 With that kind of money at stake, it is hardly surprising that industrial-scale technology has caught on, big time.
